the problem here is there is no standard way of handwrapping was legal in some states and countries is illegal in others. I don't think there was any malice involved in kesslers he redid them with no complaint

 

I'm glad you started this thread. A few weeks ago, I was talking about this on the 360 thread and the only responses I got were people thinking I was crazy.... He was layering gauze and tape and it also looked to be covering part of his knuckles. How did this not become a bigger fuss.... Like you said it's the exact thing Tito was doing, they were loading up, swing batter batter, swing.

The diff is tito was knocking people out left and right, also it was discoverd before a HUGE fight, and you know how bhop runs his mouth

Kessler isnt known for power, this was a smaller fight, ward didnt overreact ect.....

it wouldnt have helped him anyway, he couldnt land **** in that fight

 

It's amazing how one insight can change your perception of a fight, fighter, or legacy. IMO, Ward was whoopin' that ass. Kessler's hands weren't landing, so the tape probably wouldn't have matterred.

 

I've heard different places with different rules, but I'm not sure about anywhere allowing tape-gauze back and forth over the knuckles. Some places have recently allowed tape directly on the fist, but that's still not the same.

 

I think wraps do make some difference. For example, have you ever punched with a glove that wasn't worked in, or one that your hand didn't fit into all that well? It totally changes not only the strength of your punch, but the WAY you punch.

I can imagine that making the fist 'bigger' with gauze and such would be significant.

 

Why doesn't Tito get crucified on here like Margarito does?

 

Because it's o.k. if a Puerto Rican does it, but damn the world if someone else does something dirty. Oh well, until Mexicans start punching people in the balls will they be even with the Puerto Ricans.

He use to get crucified all the time but anyone with knowledge on the situation knows it got blown out of proportion and even recently Nazim Richardson said what Trinidad did was not even comparable to what Margarito tried doing. What he said was that Tito was just playing "chess" and that the way he had his hands wrapped is legal in other states while he said Margarito was trying to bring in an "extra man" to the ring against Mosley.

Bull****, Chavez and Barrera who are two Mexican ATG have purposely punched fighters in the balls also. And Juanma never had illegal wraps and Juanma was upfront about that situation.

And if anything I have seen way more posters give Margarito the benefit of the doubt than they did Tito back in the day. A prime example is boxing writer Steve Kim who had an article criticizing Tito back in 2003 or 2004 but when Margarito gets caught with plaster elements in his hand wraps, he had an article defending Margarito like that was his relative.
