Anyone notice how the referee skipped 4 numbers and immediately went to 5?

I was a bit confused by his counting also, but if you look at when he touches down to when he gets up it's ten seconds so the count was not inaccurate.

Embarassing thread.. Normal to not start the count at 1. Happens quite often. Ref often has to send the boxer who scored the knockdown to the neutral corner. Sometimes this takes some seconds, he then starts to count with like 3 or 4.

Not that it wasn't a **** stoppage, but Scott acted like an idiotic newb, you don't start to get up at nine, especially not as seasoned pro. He is atleast partially responsible for his KO loss. Would have lost the fight anyway, this was just his easy way out.

You shouldn't be so butthurt about it.

Youre all idiots, those of you who think the fix is in. Take a look again. Wen the ref gets to eight, he had a look on his face as if to say "you are in danger here if u dont get off your ****ing knee!" Malik then took another 1 and 1/4 secs to move. Unreal stupidity.

Somebody understands how this works. Some of these people can't be real boxing fans if they don't know simple rules like this. A count can be interrupted if a fighter leaves the neutral corner. I didn't see the fight, but rules are rules and this is correct.

His gloves are off the ground? Are you serious? It's called "coming up to scratch".

It means you're supposed to be on your feet and ready to fight before the count of ten. You get up between 8 and 9, not between 9 and 10.

Nowadays a guy goes down; the ref gives him an eight count, wipes his gloves, looks in his eyes, asks "You okay?", then tells the other guy to step back. That process can take 20-30 seconds.

Somebody on the outside starts counting when the fighter touches down and the ref takes up the count when he has the other fighter in a neutral corner.

Count was a little fast. But Scott should've known better than to stay down that long. You can't leave those types of things to the ref's discretion.
