Because in it's less likely than 20% to happen. Bets can be overvalued even when they are long odds, this is one of them
The odds given by a bookmaker dosnt mean they are the actual odds of that fighter winning or losing, as opposed to roulette or the flipping of a coin where the factors are set. I bet on Toney knowing full well he is the underdog - but at 5:1 odds - I like the chances of Toney pulling something off.
Agree 100%. I know the Odd are not on my side on this one..but with a punchers chance and that Randy is still at 47....I will take it..it's not like I bet on every fight that is 5-1, 10-1 or so on..
Right, the actual odds are much closer to 15-20 to 1 The bookies know there will be enough people like you to put money in at 5, so they don't need to go any higher. Bets are about value, you are paying way more than the actual value of this bet. The guy doesn't even have a real MMA trainer, he has no specific trainers in BJJ or wrestling, he is very overweight. 5:1 is being incredibly generous to Toney, and the bookies are loving it that people think it is a good price.
If I was a betting man and had more money, I'd put a considerable amount on James Toney knowing the odds. I might as well put some vcash on this fight for fun. I'm not saying Toney's odds are great. But with the odds the way they are, along with Couture's recent performance, don't count Toney out at all.
How do you come up with the odds you mention? Im betting on Toney because I believe for the return you get vs his chance of winning it is worth it. Is it likely Toney will win, the odds and more importantly the reality of the situation suggests no. Does that mean Toney wont win, no. Toney has a chance of winning - is it a 1 in 5 chance - we'll see.
Im planning to bet 187€ for Toneys victory with 5.9 odds and betting 62€ for Randy by submission with 3,3 odds.
A TRUE gambler....possibly with some problems MIGHT have the nuts to place money on James... But for me, I'm not confident enough to place a bet on james even though the return would be outstanding. I hope James wins...I know he has a shot...but the odds are stacked agaisnt him for a very legit reason.
We know all about BJJ and wrestling but anyone with half a decent knowledge in following both Boxing and MMA knows that Toney with the right Combination of punch's could put Randy out. And i hate to say this but the odds of Toney with the size of MMA gloves and his boxing accuracy which is far greater than someone with a MMA backgrouns especially after a amateur and a 50 plus Pro Boxing background could find Randy's chin. So at 5-1 i will take that bet and think Toney's odds should have been lower not higher. 20-1 would be insane and bookmakers would lose millions if Toney won.
