Just interested about this book. Probably most of the information I will already know. Opinions welcome.

    Ive read it recently.
Good book for background information and some snippets of personal life of these fab four. Some info i never knew before such as hagler losing the trials for the aau tournament at 156 then because the entrant at 165 got injured hagler replacing him and then winning the tourney. (plus picture of young hagler with hair!)
A must for fab four fans.

Really it doesnt look like Duran to me!

Unless its got some really deep insights, we'll probably already know most of the info, but would be a great read anyhow maybe

Yeah I noticed it wasn't Duran on the front cover. It's as if Leonard is hitting him, like an action shot from their fight. It clearly is not. You would think that the author and publisher would make sure the real 'four kings' were on the front cover. It's clearly a book targeted for beginners by the looks of things.

    Thats a photoshop job.

    Reading it as we speak!!

Almost finished it, great book with some great insight, Kimball adds some of his own anecdotes and it contains some great little bits of info

One that I was unaware of was that after Tommy Hearns won the NABF Middleweight belt from James Shuler, he returned it so that Shuler could be buried with it after dying in a motorcycle accident a week after the bout.

Focuses on the big fights between the four, but doesn't neglect the other meaningful bouts the guys took part in.

    Highly recommended

Okay -that's better. Kimball covered boxing for the Boston Herald til he retired a few years ago... he knows his stuff! But how he ever missed that fraud on the cover of the paperback is beyond me. Someone, probably the editor, really messed up.

... where's Hearns' jerri curls on the paperback? How could they not get an action shot from two of the biggest fights of the 80s?

And the picture of Hearns on the hardcover looks like it's from the Hill fight. We want the Jerri-curled Hearns Freak Machine!

The Hill or the Barkely II fight. I would tend to agree with you. He wore the same shorts in both fights, but his face doesn't look too bad in that picture. Probably the Hill fight.

Leonard pic taken from Duran II.

Hagler taken after he beat Hearns.

Hearns shot taken after he decisioned Hill.

Duran during the scorecards for the Leonard I fight.
