ernie was fighting long before my time, but i grew up watching his fights. heck of a battler. it was sad to watch him come back in the late 1980's for one fight, only to get ko'd in one round after having spent so much time when i was young being thrilled watching him fight griffith, napoles and that great trilogy with hedgemon lewis. always in an exciting fight...he brought a tremendous intensity into the ring, so did his brother danny, who was also a world champion at featherweight, i believe. danny lopez fought a terrific pair of fights against the legendary salvador sanchez. sanchez stopped him late in both fights, but danny was a warrior like his brother, full of electricity from bell to bell.
