Anyone remember this guy? Or know what he's up to these days?.....tough gritty fighter, not the most skilled but a definite made-for-TV type guy. Anyone?
I remember him. Had great, exciting televised wins over an aging Iran Barkley and an unbeaten, up-and-coming Richard Hall. Had another great, but very bizarre fight with Dominick Carter, in which both fighters were down and penalized points before Rocky was stopped in the very first round. Rocky came back to turn in what was considered probably his best performance by stopping Carter in a rematch. After that, he was blasted out in 2 rounds by another up-and-comer in Antonio Tarver, and I never heard from him again. I remember when he fought Tarver, the commentators mentioned that his wife was sick. I don't know how things turned out for her.
Gannon was limited, but exciting. He would always be an opponent you would fight to get a better name.
He started off in the televised tough man competition with Eric Butterbean Esch. They were in the same series in different weight classes. He was certainly "tougher" than being a skilled fighter, but as said, he had a pretty respectable boxing career for the typical midwestern club fighter type.
Rocky Gannon is making a comeback at 45! He is in his best shape of his life and has moved up to the Heavyweight division. He has a new purpose and determination. Stay Tuned as we are trying to build up his fan base.
he was the typically tough, gritty, Irish American fighter. But, James Hughes was even tougher, and better, overall.
