Yeh, it was with my younger brother about 6 months ago, the skinny little ****er loved every minute of it. I looked like a proper muppet flinching all over the place and covering my head up like a little girl. Really didn't expect a punch with a 16 oz glove on to feel like that, it humbled me though and i have a good go back at him these days.
Yep. Did all but **** myself and don't think I landed one clean punch. And my nose hurt by the end. Seems pretty standard!
2 more experienced guys whacked me about 1 had lots of speed and was slick the other pounded me with body shots shouting at me 'cover your ribs!'
I was fortunate enough to have a monster pro heavyweight in Raphael Butler take me into the ring for my first sparring session. Mind you i weighed a whopping 155 at the time. lol i did well for him not trying to kill me. he taught me alot and instantly. and he made me spar for 4 rounds without rest, so 1 16 minute round. Lol i remember him leaning on the ropes with his hands down and i just walked straight in so he popped me with a jab that knocked all the way across the 20 foot ring. lol that was my first experience in the ring
I was 21, and it was against a strong fighter with a few amateur fights. I got my nose busted by a right hand about 20 seconds in. They had to stop the sparring session temporarily due to the blood streaming. Definitely an eye-opening experience.
The first serious gym I went to I got whooped at 21 by a late 40ish former Olympian. I came aggressively at first but by the middle of the first round I was getting hit so much I was scared to throw one punch. I learned from my mistakes, but most importantly I learned to the importance of being humble and putting the ego aside (something I sadly have trouble with at times).
I can remember the first time I sparred. I was think WTF!? am I doing in this cage. Stinging of the nose eyes would water. And to top it off it was with 4oz MMA gloves. Was not fun at all. Live and learn. Lol all in the fun.
It was with my (then) favourite coach's son who'd had 7 fights and boxed for 2 years. He went easy on me from what I remember but I was all over the show switching stances (accidentally) and he winged a little bit, from what I heard he should of handled me a little bit better than he did and it was good for my first time, but the lad has moved clubs plenty and now im experienced I know he was never special. When I sparred with other lads I usually got a lickin' until I started to create a style.
