No he had about 150 amateur fights or rather over 150

"I've had probably over 150 fights as an amateur. My next fight will be in a professional ring so it's exciting times ahead. I can't wait.'' -- Josh Taylor

Sure, I just did some quick searches and the highest I found was 200. Maybe it is around 175 or so. It makes sense when considering the following:

He started having amateur bout just after turning 15 years old, and turned pro at 24 years and 6 months old. 9 and half years as an amateur amounts to around 18 fights per year. Factor in that at one point he broke his hand and it required surgery (he still fought through this period albeit mostly using one hand). Taylor actually was once scheduled to face Vasyl Lomachenko but had to pull out due to injury.

Overall, that is still a great amount of amateur experience, especially at a high level. Progais's highlight as an amateur was winning the regional Golden Gloves which is no comparison to Taylor's success or experience.

My prediction is a Taylor KO. He is a bit arrogant, surly and has insulted and verbally abused Progais, but at the same time he is a very talented and skilled fighter with great fighting attributes (speed and the ability to throw fast high volume combinations be the ones to benefit him most tomorrow).

I think I am only going by what I see in the ring and I predict Taylor KO in which he faces no real adversity or issues. Progais will be shown to be slow, ineffective, missing shots and have a very low output.

I think Prograis will win. I see this as a 60/40 fight in favor of Prograis.

Then he surely must be pursuing a career at the same time he's boxing?

No, nothing but boxing. He averaged about 18 fights a year. Also, during his amateur career he broke his hand so he missed a few fights (including one against Loma).

Yeah Taylor definitely had the better amateur career albeit Rougarou fought up at 69kgs (152lbs) whereas Taylor was fighting down at 60kgs (132lbs) back then before moving up to 64kgs (141lbs). Rougarou actually fought Spence x 2 (losing both on points)

I've seen numerous people claim Rougarou's opposition is better than Taylor's (including Rougarou himself) but I don't think that's true at all.

I heard someone say earlier that Rougarou has ''absurdly fast hands,'' but that's not true either.

I think Taylor is the better, more skilled, boxer and he can outbox Rougarou and he also has the power to hurt him too. However, Rougarou has good skills himself and he can crack. His head movement is very good as well and Taylor was hurt a bit by Postol who isn't a puncher so it'll be interesting to see what happens when Rougarou catches him clean. That being said, Baranchyk is a legit KO banger with both hands (albeit he's cruder and more wild than Rougarou) and Taylor dealt with his power OK.

I like Rougarou both personality wise and as a fighter but Taylor easily wins the eye test for me and is the better boxer. However, this one might come down to intangibles and who can take the other's power better. I think providing Taylor can take Rougarou's power he should win a competitive one on points and I wouldn't rule out a stoppage win for him either.

Yeah I remember hearing that about him and Loma being scheduled to fight each other.

His dream career was actually motorcross

'Prograis loves books but Taylor, in contrast, reveres motorbikes. “My dream career was racing motorbikes. I was good at motocross. I was real competitive – getting top-threes in a field of 40 – and had one full season. But my parents couldn’t afford it any more so I found boxing. I still love riding but I haven’t been on a bike for two years because it’s safer to put them away until after the boxing is over.”

why you making up stats.,Taylor started boxing aged 15/16 ( whoch is actually late) and had just over 150 amateur fights, Ohara Davies started boxing aged 16 too in a youth club. Taylor is just the far better natural fighter, full stop.

Chill out big guy. We have already discussed how many amateur fights Taylor had and cleared it up. Furthermore, Shane McGuigan said 170 bouts today in his interview so that is settled.

I mentioned already that Taylor was doing well in kick-boxing before he stepped into a boxing gym at 14/15 years old. Right from his first day, it was apparent he had a bright future in boxing and that he was a future champ. His whole career in boxing was always geared to becoming a world champ. It was set with goals and planned out.

As for Ohara Davies, it was the complete opposite. The guy was hitting pads once a week to keep him off the streets and out of trouble. Years down the line he started to take it more seriously and that is why he only had 18 amateur bouts. The only thing he had going for him was power, which means very little in the pro ranks against better competition. There is a reason Davies has little skill, because he has not had years to develop it. that's why he is not world class

There is a reason Taylor has better skills and technique than Ohara Davies. He has a depth of amateur experience. He has faced every kind of opposition. He has had the training and bouts to be a top world class competitor in many different fields (stamina, power, tank, skills, in-fighting, accuracy etc etc.)

Not sure what you are getting at? Did you just want me to say Davies is crap and Taylor is world class because I have said that before and I have just repeated myself.

I was really undecided on this but seeing the face off video and how Taylor was desperate to intimidate Prograis with his pathetic story while Prograis was so confident and cool, I think Regis got this on the mental end. I really can't predict how the fight will play out but I expect as the rounds progress, Prograis will take over and I have a feeling that it will be a corner stoppage win for him in the later rounds, 9 or 10 perhaps.

Taylor will pinch the early rounds and then prograis will start to get his timing right mid rounds onwards

Taylor has the speed but he’s hit too easily. I don’t think prograis can stop him but I can see us on here having Regis winning by 3 rounds

not sure Regis gets his hand raised though
