Disgusted...can't even sum it up. The Chinese lad was getting points for near nothing and Kenny couldn't get a point if he paid for it Gutted...weve being robbed by the Chinese Discuss lads,
My post on another forum: Just over a second after the Chinese fighter got his first point I knew what was happening here. Egan landed a lovely left uppercut straight afterwards and there was no score. Even in the short replays they showed on RTÉ, they only showed 3 but one clearly hit the gloves, another was landed with the palm and not even powerfully and the final the second one they showed looked like a bit of a slap aswell. They then showed a short clip where Egan should of been awarded 3/4 points and got none. http://www.rte.ie/sport/olympics2008...23/boxing.html Just thought it was relevant to post that again. Btw China isn't really a proper communist country, they allow fighters to turn pro. There has been 15 pro cards in China this year. There has been 93 active Chinese fighters that have fought in the last year. But Xiaoping probably won't turn pro, it's an odd thing but in many of the Asian countries their good amateurs stay amateur. Even in Thailand who always has a lot of World Champions in the lower weights. Xiaoping will never win another Olympics and he'll never win a World Championships(outside of China), he's not a bad fighter but he's just not good enough to do it.
That chinese 81kg'er was robbing people from the start, he should have literally been out in round 1.
The tall Chinaman had one punch - that big right..Egan got caught a couple of times with it - but that was all...Egan caught him many times that were not scored...Body shots totally overlooked. Well frustrating!
This was no robbery, I've seen far worse in previous Olympics. Favouring the host nation has been standard fare in both Olympic boxing and pro boxing. Even if there is no genuine corruption, judges will always be influenced in some way or another, whether it be superior "hospitality" or simple crowd pressure. With regard to Kenny Egan, yes he was judged harshly, whilst his opponent was judged favourably. The scores should have been closer, but to claim robbery is a bit over the top.
No robbery. The bout should have been closer but the result was ok. Shame for Egan to lose, hopefully he will make an half decent pro now.
i also didn't think it was a robbery. i agree egan should have had more pts than he got though. egan paid for that slow start. the ch1nk deffo deserved rd 1.
Yep, there was a couple of shots in the 4th that should have scored but I thought the Chinese lad did enough to win. The BBC commentary was a little biased towards Egan, the scoring was nowhere near as bad as they were making out.
I find it pretty amazing that favouritism can pervade through the olympics. this aint the ****ing eurovision song contest, its the biggest sporting event in the world. it taints it really, ans I will eat my hat if china get their ****ing 33 golds or whatever it is in London.
