Why do you highlight thatas if its a silly statement? Eubank was the washed up old man former champ shipping weight into the bargain, served up on a plate for Joe Calzaghe to announce himself as the next 'big' thing.

Joe then after a bright start gets dragged into the trenches and is happy to hear the final bell! Two recent examples of the same matchmaking immediately spring to mind right off the top of the dome, Harrison-Robinson & Khan-Barrera. Thats what Joe was supposed to do, but didnt. Joe wasnt old when he fought Eubank, but he was no spring chicken neither
Then theres Kessler, Joe once again doing enough to win on points, but was surviving by the end, wheras Froch was piling it on late against Kessler, & Kessler was the one doing the surviving!

Throw in Calzaghe winning a dodgy decision against Bhop & beating a faded Jones(& being floored in each) never mind stinking the joint out against Robin Reid... not to mention other mishaps in his career & people are saying he would stand Froch on his head???? My turn to goatsch

Look, Im neutral. My whole point is that Calzaghe wouldnt have played with Froch is all. I would pick Calzaghe to win on an SD, but those who are remembering Calzaghe as some sort of boxing behemoth are obviously deluded by that 0 when they look him up on boxrec.

Well no because Joe beat Kessler and would have breezed the Dirrell fight. Only Ward would have been a problem and Calzaghes angles and ring intelligence combined with volume punching would have seen him win that too.

Calzaghe was a wasted talent, because although his record is better than many give him credit for, it is also seriously lacking given the fights that were out there and given his talent.

He would have thrashed Froch and it wouldn't have been close, just like it was not close between Froch and Ward at all.

 

Reid at his best was a better boxer than Froch and hit harder too. Froch has a great mentality and is always in shape and any boxing fan should admire and support him because of these things. Froch does not hit fast enough or hard enough to be a problem for prime Calzaghe. Early Calzaghe who just liked to stand in the box and win on volume, yeah he has a better chance of winning rounds etc.

Hopkins disguises shots well and is always awkward to fight. RJJ hit Calzaghe with a forearm.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised at Joe sulking, obviously jealous of the limelight. Now Froch has slowed even more and been battered to **** several times would it surprise anyone to see Calzaghe come back? And he'd probably outpoint Froch easier now than if he'd fought him years ago.

 

reid was the stiffest boxer i ever saw, don't get me wrong he was good at being a good stiff boxer,and could bang,but in no way was he as fluid(if you can call it fluid) as froch,or bang harder than froch,i think froch would of coasted past reid,easy:deal
ps,i like reid,always liked him,watched him as a amateur and from his 1st pro fight,but he was always stiff

 

Never understood all this crap about Froch's mythical power and iron chin a.k.a. having a **** non-existent defence and blocking punches with his face atsch As for his superhuman punching power, way back when he first picked up the wbc strap against against Pascal following yet another homecooked decision, how many opponents has he actually stopped since then? Jermaine Taylor, but then again Taylor was shot well before. After Taylor, anybody? Calzaghe would have embarrassed this chump :deal

 

Pretty damn hard to phrase it any other way since the ****er is retired ie, not fighting, therefore every match-up would have to be of a speculative note.atsch

 

Froch isn't that hard a puncher.

Calzaghe is all wrong for him. 118-110 type result.

I think Froch gets a little bit underrated in the way of defense and general skill level, because he's so awkward and ponderous, because at his best, this guy is a very handy fighter, not just some toughman. Still Calzaghe was a higher class of boxer and that's just the way it is. Froch can take on all the challenges and get all the love (which he's earned) but it's not going to change that.
