Froch, keeps his hands way too low, isn't fast enough and doesn't use his jab(Arthur abraham apart) enough....doesn't counter brilliantly, is abit of a face fighter at times.
The only way JC loses is if he gets tagged and decides to brawl it out byron mitchell style

Calzaghe could have fought Froch before he retired. He chose not. For me that in that fact therein lies the answer that Calzaghe did not fancy it.

 

No Froch was way more advanced than DeGale at that time.

 

Calzaghe was a very talented fighter. But not an ATG IMO.

Hypothetically against other top level fighters there are some I'd fancy him to win, some I wouldn't. I don't understand why Calzaghe gets so much love and Conteh doesn't, ho-hum.

I just don't think it was a practical fight, when Joe retired in 2008 he was at Light Heavy, he had been struggling to make Super Middle for quite some time; Froch is a relatively small Super Middle, he could probably come in at Middle if he wanted (just wait until tonight to see the size difference between him and Bute in the ring). I really think Joe would have struggled to make Super again.

Prior to Joe's last fight Carl had just fought Albert Rybacki, and was still a month away from fighting for his first title.

I'm not taking anything away from Carl Froch, I think he's great and a true warrior, he is our very own version of Glen Johnson!

It's just at the time that Joe retired he really had nothing left to prove, and at the time Carl froch would have been a step backwards (no disrespect to Carl).

I don't believe for one moment Joe ducked Carl, he had made mega millions fighting Jones Jnr and Hopkins, and it was time to hang up the gloves.

We criticise so many fighters for not walking away from the game at the right time (look at poor Jones Jnr, imagine if he'd retired after the Ruiz fight); I believe Joe did just this and that is for me why he is argubably the greatest boxer this country has ever produced.:bbb

 

I tell you what, even although I think Joe beats Carl, it will make for interesting viewing should the two of them ever commentate on fights together or sit in a TV studio and discuss their careers. I think Froch would have a lot to say about fighting the best available competition. :yep

Prime for prime, Calzaghe wins by wide, perhaps shut out, decision.

Even off prime Calzaghe, towards the end of his career, beats a prime Froch with relative ease, something like 116/112.

I like Froch a lot, he's probably my favourite fighter of the moment, but Calzaghes style, coupled by the fact Calzaghe was a great fighter, is all wrong from him.

Not a chance Calzaghe wins on points but it would have been close like the Robin Reid fight

I love this revisionist bull**** that Calzaghe should have fought Froch.

Either side of Calzaghe's last fight at 168, Froch was fighting a guy who was 26-9 and Robin Reid who had just been utterly embarrassed by Jeff Lacy (whatever happened to him?) and then retired for four years cos he was so shot.

Then when Calzaghe was arranging his last ever fight, Froch was fighting a non-entity who was having his second fight in about four years.

Froch was never relevant. It was his mouth that was a factor.
