I was disgusted after watching the documentry Ali had no business in the ring that night and someone should've been held accountable for it.
Total Bullcrap Holmes beat a shell of Ali. Ali was told to fight by Elijah Muhammad they needed the $8mil. All his life Ali was stolen from & swindled read the book My Life & Times Muhammad Ali by Thomas Hauser It'll open your eyes I can tell you
If Elijah Muhammad told Ali to jump off a bridge... You know what, don't answer that. Ali signed the fight. He knew the deal. Holmes won. Whatever...this documentary was completely biased. It made every possible excuse for Ali, while giving Larry Holmes no credit. Much like HIStory has wrongfully done to Larry. The media deification of Ali is annoying as heck. Sure he was a great boxer, and like many other great boxers, he occasionally lost.
It's the same with any entertainer. They are all surrounded by leeches who depend on them to make a living. Pacquiao will have the same problem when he gets older, because he will get drained of all of his money extremely fast. Hopkins was intelligent with his career decisions, so he only boxes as an older man because he lived a life that wasn't detrimental to his health and future.
I don't think that anyone would argue that it was a mistake on Ali's part to take the fight and that he should have never done it. I also dont' think that you can hold it against Holmes that he took the fight. A big payday against a great name that people were holding over his head. Get real though man facts are facts. Larry beat a shell of Ali and that fight is not his best moment or even close to it. Every young great fighter beats up on an old great fighter at some point in their career. It's what you do afterwards that defines you and Larry certainly passed that test.
Dude just shut your dumbass up!!! It showed exactly the things you are bitching about!!! Poor Larry beat the crap out of his (and people's) idol and people hated him for that, but Ali himself was cool with that!!! He even joked, when Larry went to him: "if you love me why you beat me up like that"?! :yep It just showed how that fight was a mess, but you can't stop a man like The Greatest from doing what he wants!!! :nono Anyone who saw it, they know how great Larry Holmes is!! :thumbsup But you can't change the history: People at that time didn't give credit Larry deserves, but IT'S NOT THE GREATEST'S FAULT!!! :bart Thankfully Larry slowly getting his due now!!! :good God bless The Greatest and Larry!!! :hi:
Larry Holmes readily admitted it was not the Ali he sparred with. He had a career to progress and money to make. If he didn't take the fight he'd have to hear how he dodged an old Ali. Larry's only problem is that he didn't have the charisma or character of a television star. As talented as he was, he wasn't able to carry any torch. He had to create his own torch that was impossible to extinguish, but not very bright.
Yep (shed some tears), you can see Larry loved The Greatest as much as any die hard fan, but that hurt him even more because HE HAD TO GET OUT THERE AND BEAT HIM UP LIKE THAT (it's like beating your own older favorite brother!) That's just too sad. :verysad And fans hating him for that, hurts him even up to now, he still remembers some strange woman who come up to him and said: I hate you! :verysad Poor Larry, God bless your heart!!!
Have any of you kids seen an awesome documentary insight into life story of very underrated and overlooked Great Larry Holmes called: Beyond the Glory: Larry Holmes. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbLTXcPgwrc[/ame]
