Anyone surprised that Usyk totally outshone Lomachenko?

10 years ago, Lomachenko was seen as the next P4p great, one of the future GOATS, and Usyk was a bigger, lesser version of him.

10 years later, Usyk is one of the GOATS of the sport and Lomachenko is just a HOFer.

Not surprised. But in fairness to Loma, he was robbed in one fight. Usyk was fortunate enough not to be robbed. Imagine if they robbed Usyk in the Joshua rematch.

    Not All.

I used to post on another forum and I said Loma's performance against Salido, in his first ever title challenge (2nd ever pro fight) Was indicative of Loma's biggest flaw...he just is not physical enough.

Usyk on the other hand, very different to other fighters who have been amateurs for a long time, can go to the trenches and can get physical. He is strong and gritty. Loma is not.

Well Usyk is a far better fighter so it's really not that surprising.

Loma was extremely unlucky and had Usyk fought over in the US against their big stars or supposed to be their next big future stars with home refs and judges and the fights were remotely close he would've been robbed of his titles and a huge part of his legacy by their thieving corrupt judges who somehow manage to keep getting the gig despite their long track records for robbing the rightful winners, especially foreigners and ones from that part of the world in recent years.

His fight with Lopez disappointed me. He didn’t get robbed in that fight. It was a fair decision. He did almost nothing for 5 rounds and came on too late.

He got robbed against Haney, but his performance in the Lopez fight tarnished his legacy quite a bit.

I think the big difference is Loma made the mistake of choosing to fight mostly out of the US & hook up with the usual snake oil salesmen that run the game there like Arum etc... whereas Usyk didn't.. there's a reason the Klitschkos & Usyk never really tied themselves down like that.. we saw it with GGG, Kovalev & Loma.. they never get the benefit of the doubt & there is establishment bias.. even corruption.. that has ultimately been his main career weakness. That and injury.. but little fellas dont age as well as the HWs .. hence why Usyk has been more consistent.. i also think he should have turned professional four years earlier too.. he would gone down as an all-time great up there with Pac & Floyd, I firmly believe that he is that good. I still view him as a lock HOFer but there could have been even more with Loma if he'd have managed his career a little better. Regardless tho, there was still a period when Loma was totally mesmerising.. that time he was making all those Fighters quit.. he has given us some amazing technical master classes against the likes of Linares, Walters, Commey, Kambosos, Russell etc.. I can go back and watch any of his fights and it's an absolute pleasure to view, even the losses.. i think Salido was lucky he wasnt DQd. Overall you have to say Usyk has accomplished more but I still prefer watching Loma.

I was one of those that paid too much attention to Loma while he was making noise because of how awesomely talented he showed fight after fight, especially compared to Usyk who just looked ordinary to me at the time. Looking back I think I just didn't seem to care too much about Usyk during his rise to the top but Usyk has seriously grown on me over the years and he's now won me over with his brilliance, toughness, and fearlessness. Just goes to show that you need more than just athletic gifts and flashy footwork to get to ATG level.

Still surprised by how Usyk managed to get to the top the hard way, beaten the best guys in front of him, and remaining unbeaten. Loma is still a HOFer and one of my favorite modern fighters but Usyk is just on another level in terms of achievement and ring IQ.

agreed. Loma is great but he has been unfortunate to lose a decision that he should have never lost. That must be so demoralizing.

Loma definitely got unlucky against Salido and it robbed him from making history. I personally think he should have stuck around 130 a little longer and dominated there instead of putting himself at a size disadvantage going into 135. Perhaps he would have been more dominant fighter a longer and perhaps we might have seen him against Tank much earlier.

Not surprised at all, expected that from the very beginning. With all the skills Loma has, he doesn't have Usyk's mindset, toughness, IQ and stamina. Usyk is just better fighter all-around, it's clear as day

He was robbed against Salido and Haney

For sure. He should've grabbed a title at 135 and moved back down to 130. He's good enough to become undisputed at 135, should of become so, but he's just giving away too much size, weight and reach. Those guys are just too big and it's a weight bully rich division. Loma is barely bigger than Inoue for goodness sake. He would've ruled 130 with an iron fist

    Yes & No
Loma is a very little guy
Usyk while not as huge as the super heavies
Is still a bear of a man himself.

fighting as a bloated light weight
Where the Haney & R Garcia types
Cheated & manipulated the system as weight bullies that difference in weight shows up & hits differently come full rehydration during fight night.

Loma never really had a signature win. Even a Haney win would have been dubious in retrospect and in light of the Garcia slapdown.

While watching the Salido fight, I was struck by the fact that Loma did not retaliate against flagrant fouls. Lost respect for him at that point. Anyway, only 21 pro fights doesn't do much for a legacy.
