Anyone surprised that Usyk totally outshone Lomachenko?

I wouldn’t say that was his biggest career accomplishment, it was smoke and mirrors considering the gift decisions and he immediately got dominated and stopped by Wlad. All of his best work had been done: making Vitali quit to win the WBO, outboxing Tua and schooling Holyfield to become the No.1 American HW. He’d fought Wlad already and lost a 12 round decision. Vitali didn’t want to rematch, Lewis vacated to sidestep him. Retiring in mid 2003 would have made him a HOF lock.

Sticking around another 6 years made him an icky K2 era HW and his four IBF defences were all close and controversial or close and boring, against less regarded opponents. He’d have been favoured to beat all of them, probably comfortably, had he not fought them. His best wins were then retconned as “lucky” and he seriously damaged his record.

Haye’s signature wins were Valuev and Chisora. He lost to Carl Thompson on the way up. He didn’t beat the same quality of opponent, didn’t beat as many and he didn’t run Byrd’s gauntlet. Even if Haye’d retired after beating Chisora at 26-2 he wouldn’t have got in the HOF.

It was by far his biggest accomplishment.

He was the number 1 HW in the world, not just America.

His best work wouldn't have ever been done has he retired early.

Retiring in 2003 he never sniffs the HOF, he's known as a guy who picked up a paper belt from Lewis.

That's a very stranger argument about hypothetically doing better against opponents than what actually transpired. He had 4 very close fights and outlasted every other belt holder to claim top spot.

As Byrd's biggest fan on here I'm very confident that was Byrd's biggest achievement.

That's the general opinion of most who watched the fight.

Your first sentence above was reasonable, Olu.

But your follow-up, gratuitously infantile remark ?

Your schoolboy-level name calling is disappointing, especially in a fifty-fiver year-old man who is schooled in the law and whose school motto was Bone et Fidelis.

What would your Woodhouse teachers (now deceased, I expect), or even your fellow alumni make of such puerile catcalling ?

Such behaviour is beneath you, Cobra. You should stick to discussions of facts and opinions, and avoid the gutter.

Clearly I have upset you! I thought Lomasexual was a terminology you guys who think Loma is the greatest go by.
However as per the motto of my Alma Mater I will refrain from referring to you as such so as not to hurt your feelings.

Some teachers may be deceased ( such as my dear Mr Farrow who developed me in so many ways I still miss him, dear Mr David Miller our beloved headmaster and my house master the late great John Bryant popularly known as “Fasch” all gone but never forgotten ) but many are still alive.

The general opinion does not interest me because that is partisan. Rather I go with the evidence of my eyes.

Thanks for taking me down memory lane.

    I wasn't upset for Loma.

He's a great boxer but far from my being my favourite.

I just felt bad that a man of your standing would resort to such monickers.

I would say all of my teachers have long since 'crossed the Jordan.'

In fact, most of my university professors are probably below ground by now, or in care homes.

I still have good memories of some.

And some others.....well, not so good.

No. The lower weight classes are more difficult to compete at.

So as soon as you watched Usyk beat Glowacki on points on his first world title fight you felt he would outshine Lomachenko who was already a 2 weight champion?
    Fair play.
I could understand it when Usyk became the premier undisputed CW champ but for you to think it back then...

There was a thread years ago asking if Usyk had surpassed Loma and I said yeah and explained why I felt that.

But Glowacki was a great victory.

    I just saw it
I get it then and don't disagree
The thread was asking if anyone felt Usyk would go on to outshine around 10 years ago.
I wouldn't have thought it when thinking back 10 years ago as Usyk hadn't had many fights and lomachenko was a world champion

It was a good win considering how few pro fights usyk had had at that time

It was more than that though, Usyk beat the beat CW in the world.

Loma was two division titlist but he'd also lost already to Salido and was struggling to get any fights against meaningful opposition.

His SFW run was amazing, but not once did he even unify two of the titles.

Usyk had something about him that Loma never had, it was the humility to do what it took to make the biggest fights possible.

Loma was fighting Undefeated N Walters as his next fight at that time which was a big fight.
Every bit as big I would think
