Tyson was a unique fighter and there won't be many like him.

But there will be plenty of exciting top class heavyweights in the future.

This idea that Tyson didn't have a great chin and Ali had a better one is wrong. Ali had a very good chin, but what he had that was great was his recuperative powers and his ability to roll with punches. If you think for one second that he could have taken the flush shots round after round that Tyson took from Lewis and Ruddock you are wrong. Tyson with his 20 inch neck had a chin of iron. He was never dropped from one punch, but rather an accumulation of punches. With the exception of the Douglas fight (which he hardly trained for), his knockdowns came when he was well past his prime and even they were not from one punch. What Tyson didn't have that Ali had was great recuperative powers. Once you hurt Tyson, he was done...but it took a LOT to hurt him.

 

Tyson had a tremendous chin. Lewis said he couldn't believe the shots Tyson took and that his handsl hurt after. And Tyson was the only fight his hands ever hurt.

Tyson had massive heart and chin but after Douglas, Givens fiasco, jail, getting exploited by you know who, his hunger and desire and tenacity were never the same. Tyson at his mental and physical strongest pre 1989-88 was virtually impregnable. After that point in time he was a slowely eroding shell of himself.
