I thought he had a real chance there...he'd unleash a combo on lacy...he'd look a bit wobbly then JT would initiate a clinch-wat the hell???I thought JT fought a good fight but was kinda lazy
Man i was screaming at JT to throw more combos while he had Lacy hurt....he was so close to dropping him.
JT seemed to not want to pull the trigger on him though Lacy was an open target. JT was looking for a clean one punch type of knockout. He didnt really just want to punish Lacy IE how Calzaghe did. He really could of did more and he looked like he was just trying to get rounds in the bank and not make mistakes.
I think that another poster touched on this abit and even the HBO guys did. I think that a small part of Taylor wanted to allow Lacy to finish the fight, I dont think many knew just how close the two were/are..Alot of times in boxing fighters become great friends after they fight in some cases they are gret friends before they fight...Lacy and Taylor were said to have been the closest friends of any on that US team, and maybe that played a part in it, I also think that it played a part in why the fight was made in the first place.
That's pretty much what I was thinking. By the looks of it Taylor could have, at the very least, forced the referee to take a close look at Lacy during a barrage but he fought at a controlled pace and didn't risk it. By the way, does anyone know how much each fighter got paid? Lacy should thank Taylor for throwing him a bone here cuz his career was basically done and there weren't any other big paydays down the line after the Manfredo and Mendoza fights. Mike Tyson once basically described how professional fighters are like a fraternity that help each other elevate their lives by fighting one another. You're doing your opponent and yourself a favor by fighting him and making the big bucks.
They are good friends, Knowing you are going to easily beat someone there is no need to finish his career more than it is already, Taylor made his point clear even if he didn't knock him out.
Taylor never really had his finger on the trigger so to speak, but he could've inflicted more damage. Fight between friends is never really good to be honest, looking at TOS vs. Byrd, Brewster vs. Meehan etc etc. I'd love to see Miranda or Froch talk BS for a fight with Taylor, that'll get him fired up:fire
