I have heard in the past that he has said he may move to light heavyweight because he finds it difficult to make Super Middleweight. Could he be struggling at the weight?

Kessler have never had any weight problems at Super-middleweight.
Against Calzaghe he had to go commando to hit 168.
    But he made it! ;)

I think he should have moved up after the Calzaghe fight.

He looked at least a division bigger than JC at the weigh-in.

It's a shame that promotional problems and safety first matchmaking (at times) cut short his prime.

he has always been tight at 168 but always seems to manage it safely.

Froch has claimed 15 minutes ago that he is 167 at the minute

I don't know where this notion that Kessler is huge for the weight comes from but it's completely untrue IMO. Calzaghe and Ward's walk around weight is much heavier than their fighting one, about 14st I think. However, there's no way Kessler's even comes close to that. His trainer Jimmy Montoya said that he could make and would be willing to get down to 160 for the right fight and neither of those guys could get down that low. Robert McCracken said in an interview the other day that he knows Mikkel doesn't have a problem making weight too, which Kessler himself has confirmed on a number of occasions too. Froch isn't big for the weight either and Mikkel doesn't look any bigger than him to me when they stand side by side. I've never seen Kessler looking really drained at weigh ins either. In fact, he doesn't look much different to how he usually looks.

I actually think he used to look bigger three or four years ago than he does now and I that there's less chance of him struggling to get down to 12st now than there was back then. He weighed in bang on the division limit of 168 for the Calzaghe fight, as he had done on all but one occasion for his previous eight fights before that too. In fact, he was even slightly over the first time of asking. However, since then, with the exception of the Green fight which was a catch weight fight of 172 (which he was almost 3lbs under) he's never weighed 168. He was even 166¾ for the Bouadla fight. I know Andre Ward was very surprised at his lack of size when he met him in the flesh for the first time too. He said he'd expected him to be much bigger than he was and that it gave him even more confidence that he could beat him.

That said, Steve Bunce said Kessler was '' a big old lump' on the Boxing Hour the other day and that you couldn't see a difference in size between him and Nathan Cleverly when they were standing next to each other recently. When he quizzed him about how their sparring sessions had gone you could tell Cleverly seemed very unimpressed by Kessler though even though he wouldn't outright say it. Reading between the lines it sounded like he'd done a number on him, which is a bit worrying.

Calzaghe's fighting weight was between 12st 10lbs-12st 12lbs, I'd be very surprised if Kessler's was even as high as that, and shocked if it exceeded it, even though he looked the bigger of the two of them when they fought.

lol true. You could definitely tell that he didn't have any problems with him though and that he thought Froch was definitely going to win.

Kessler never goes much over his fighting weight.

after the Froch fight and his subsequent lay off he claimed to have only gained 8lbs in that time.

He came in at 166.7, so the answer is no. :good
Froggy was 167.9 by the way.
