To be fair to Mendoza reading his post in context, he does not state that the men he lists "deserved a title shot" only that during Louis's reign as champion he only met two black contenders, while these fighters were contemporaries of the era.
Louis defeated Roscoe Toles by KO in a bout both listed as an exhibition and as a credited bout in varying reports.
Louis handled Ray 3x in exhibition bouts rather handily knocking him out once.
He also fought Fox in an exhibition. And he defeated Bivins post championship reign.
Louis fought in an era where the majority of black contenders were not outstanding enough to merit a title challenge.

Wrong. Name a lt heavyweight contender that got a title shot during that period who did not campaign as a hwt. Lewis was lt hwt champion. Fox was a lt hwt contender who was not fighting hwts.

As an example Conn beat quite a few hwts before fighting for the hwt title.

Lewis had kod Elmer Ray just 8 months prior to being destroyed by Louis in 1 round!
I don't debate with you, I just ridicule you.

    Yeah, this says it all.

Haynes was not a serious contender by the time Louis became champion.

Thank you. If the OP was fair, he would have used the initial post, not create separate posts without the content. As champion Louis essentially split the division in half and did not face the best black fighters, some of who were clearly better than several of the white opponents he gave title shots. I'll debate anyone on that point

I would say Elmer Ray ranked as high as #2 annually, possibly #1 after Louis got a questionable decision over Walcott was worthy. There is a good story that Louis's people saw Ray fight in the New York, and did not want the match.

The initial post was not specifically about Haynes just a sly implication that you have again repeated more openly today that Louis did not want to fight black challengers
You 've had your ars* kicked once again and I thoroughly enjoyed doing the kicking!:rofl:happy

Must admit this was a feeble argument from Mendoza.

Louis fought Ray in three exhibitions , koing him in 4 rds in the last one.Ray was not a credible challenger for Louis either fistically or financially .

You could kick a beach ***** @ss. I find it ironic that you'll defend Jack Johnson for using the color line, but not for Joe Louis!:lol::lol:

Your data was wrong in many cases.

    Examples:

When Fox was active. You said he did not fight in 1942 or 1944. Wrong.

Or when you said two black fighters won't draw well in a title match and I posted the attendance and gate from the Walcott fight. Wrong again!

You have limited brains, and could not even quote in in context when you started the threads, which should have started based on what I said in another thread.

You won't twist the truth on these two facts.

1 ) Louis only fought two black men in 26 title defenses. :deal

2 ) Many of the black fighters Louis did not give title shots to were better than the white ones he did.:deal

In closing you were wrong twice, and won't address my points.

Where I come from that's an OWNAGE.

"Louis only fought two black men in 26 title defenses"

Actually, if you are using the number 26, are you including the Johnny Davis fight? Was Davis white? I don't know.

Or do you consider the Ezzard Charles fight a defense for Louis? (I think Nat Fleischer did)

If one counts them both, I think Louis had five out of twenty-seven title defenses against black opponents, and defended against four black men.

I think therefore he defended against more black men for more fights than all the previous champions put together.

I don't defend anyone who is racist, as you are. I said Fox did not fight from 1941-1944 there is a difference.

    BELOW Jimmy Bivins 1941-9144

Why would we care whether he fought him or not, when he didn't even hold the title?

Frankly I don't see how this would have been a good career move for Haynes.
