In before "lolz Soliman can't punch!!!11" I don't think Taylor's finished a fight strong in his life, and Soliman's career is littered with late stoppages. He hasn't finished strong against low workrate giys pushing 40 in Hopkins, not against cardio machines like Froch, nor against super low work rate sloths like Arthur Abraham. He couldn't even finish strong against a club fighter with legitimately awful stamina in Caleb Truax. HE was the one holding on for dear life in that one. And that was a 10 rounder. I think Soliman would have a far more flattering KO ratio if he didn't routinely fight extremely durable opponents. Look at said list. Raymond Joval (Never stopped) Giovanni Lorenzo (Extremely durable fighter who was only stopped as of last year, by the left hook from hell by Danny Jacobs and recently by wunderkind Gilbero Ramirez Sanchez. Soliman knocked him down in the waning moments of the fight. Saiko Bika 2x (Notoriously durable, never stopped) Max Alexander (Never stopped) Enrique Ornelas (Durable, scrappy guy who tussled with some of the best) Fernando Zuniga (Only stopped once on accumulation, Ronald Wright (ATG defense, great chin to boot. Never seen the fight myself but I've heard some say Soliman deserved the decision) Basically, I have no doubt that Soliman would have stopped all four of Taylor's comeback opponents (He actually did stop Raul Munoz, who Taylor for some reason chose as a comeback fight... 6 and a half years after Soliman stopped him Anyway, just some observations that popped into my head when I've heard nothing but echos of "Soliman UD" .
+1 Soliman has got the volume to do it. Taylor has long been unable to defeat top fighters. At first thought Soliman isn't one, but he has twice done to Sturm (once PED positive) what I couldn't imagine a 2014 Taylor doing to him.
A late stoppage is possible but what is more worrying is because Sam has a high workrate without one punch power Taylor will be taking far more punishment which is worse for the existing brain damage he clearly has. Basically the worst style match up for his health.
Soliman has no power whatsoever, but his style and volume is enough to potentially stop Jermain late in the fight. However, this is one of the few "top level" matchups Jermain could take on and have a legitimate shot to win if he establishes his jab and doesn't get gunshy. I suspect Soliman will pull it out though.
Solimans career is "littered with late stoppages" against Sydney bus drivers. Hes never stopped a legit opponent in his life. Taylor on the other hand has been stopped only by notorious big punchers.
your missing the point, sam doesnt need power to stop jermain, its called accumulation off punches due to sams amazing stamina, combined with jermains lack of stamina & his punch resistance gone, can be a recipe gone wrong. sam will throw all night long, power or no power make no mistake. jermain better be ready or hes in for a long night.
His "lack of stamina" was only brought to light when huge punchers landed big punches. The Paulie Malignaggi of the MW division isnt going to wear him down unless he is even more shot than most people think.
Yes he can and most likely will. Not that Soliman is in his prime but Taylor is beyond past it and literally damaged. I will be shocked and ecstatic if he pulls this off.
Taylor is a sharp puncher and counterer so a high work rate low power type of guy should be good for him.
