Anyone think the Byrd-Ibeabuchi stoppage was a bad call?

Look at the vid. Clearly Ike, landed a huge left hand that dropped Byrd and hurt and bad. Byrd then went down again. Yes Bryd was hurt, up he got up and beat the count, there were only 15 secs left in the round. Byrd showed great defense and instincts in the last sequence before the ref stopped it. He was ducking, slipping and rolling all of Ike's shots, except for one. He could've survived the round, gotten a minute to recover and continued to fight.

I've linked directly to the knockdown. Discuss.

Second knockdown looked iffy, seemed like a push more than anything

i think he could of continued but his body language didnt help

his legs seemed wobbly he faced away from Ibeabuchi didnt throw back and was talking to the ref not protecting himself

shoulda just got outta the corner and survived

Nope. Ibeabuchi is the greatest puncher in boxing history and was well on his way to killing Chris Byrd in the ring.

I think he was protecting himself. He didn't throw back, but he was making Ike miss. Its one thing when a guy is just covering up while his opponent unloads, but Bryd was slipping and rolling everything. I think the ref should've let him see the end of the round. It wasn't ike Ike was teeing off on him.

He was missing a lot for someone who was on his way to killing a man.

What makes you think he was finished??

Tough call, he stopped it about 3 seconds late which made it look like an arguably bad call.

Watch the whole fight. Ike clearly dominated. It was a great stoppage. Byrd was just simply outclassed here.

No, the only bad part was the ref letting it continue after the first knockdown, it should have been clear to him that Byrd was gone, him rolling the punches etc means nothing it's instinct for a proffessional boxer he was well on his way to a coma...

Absolutely not. Byrd wasn't even fighting at the end. Good stoppage by the ref.

Chris has always said it was a bad stoppage but then Chris hates to lose so he would say that. My only problem with the stoppage was that it happened after the bell had rang. Why not let Chris go to the corner and try to recover?

If do...the fight was stopped early because the ref was a gambler.

Because then it would have been a tko or ko 6, not tko 5 anymore...no money for the ref. Remember the ref laid down some big one on tko 5.

Chris "Drooly" Bird. That's about it.
