Anyone think this is all a ploy by the Mayweather camp?

    OK, hear me out.

If they REALLY wanted this fight, they would've approached the Top Rank people first before publicly announcing anything. Isn't that common business courtesy? But why the need to publicize all this stuff when you haven't even talked to the people you need to negotiate with?

Now the public thinks Mayweather wanted the fight and it's all on Pac's camp and if the fight doesn't happen, people will blame Pac. But negotations haven't even started. What if Mayweather goes into the negotations asking for outlandish demands like 60/40 split or Pac can't train in the Philippines, etc? What Mayweather has to learn is that Pac is about or almost his equal and he can't expect to dictate terms and have the Pac people just submit to every demand. You have to give some.

    Thoughts?

I'm sure he'd fight Pac if they truly agreed on everything, but they won't.

I'm not sure who else he could really fight. Martinez seems likely, possibly Cotto/Tony winner depending on how that goes.

BTW, Floyd agreed to Pacs split on the money the first time they negotiated.

Right after Pac destroyed Hatton or Cotto, Floyd announced he would take on JMM.

Right after Pac agreed to the requested cut off date of 7 days, Floyd went on vacation and lost the urge.

And given Pac's history of taking on pretty much anyone out there, it's hard to argue against Pac. He is not one to duck anyone. Now, Arum is possibily a different story.

That's exactly what they're doing. They didn't even bother to actually mention Pac in that statement. The use of 'little fella' will be twisted to mean anything when the fight is again not made and they're questioned why they mentioned Pac for May 5.

Securing a prime summer date before Arum can get to it, is very wise move. It's like they both know the fight isn't getting happening, and they're just engaging in a war of irritating each other outside of the ring, instead.

Not to mention, it still hasn't been established whether Mayweather has finally acknowedged/accepted Pac's willingness to be drug tested. Seeing as though this was the sole thing that was preventing the whole thing from happening, wouldn't it be a good idea to confirm this before booking in a date and venue?

I think it is a mind game that Floyd is playing. He knows that Arum have ego as big as his; and the Bobfather will probably not bow down to his conditions. At the end, he will fight somebody else comes May 5, 2012; and blame team Pac for their fight not happening.

Ellerbe earlier in the day said that they heard that Pac has agreed to the tests and said that he looked forward to making the fight now that they are on the same page.

I don't think Ellerbe used "little guy" for any other reason than to patronize him.

My thoughts are that you're reaching. Mayweather knows damn well he can't ask for 60/40 or dictate where Pac trains(it doesn't matter anyway as the USADA has stated they can test Pac in the Phillipines). Team Mayweather already tried to go the traditional route with this fight and it blew up in their face. Arum has no problem straight making **** up to get people to blame Mayweather. Now Mayweather has now made it perfectly known that he wants to fight Pacquiao and has even set aside a date and venue. Arum has sold the public on the fight not happening for two reasons; blood testing and Mayweather not wanting the fight. Arum has already claimed testing is no longer an issue and Floyd just took care of the other concern.

I think they want the fight now because Mayweather has been lambasted by pretty much everyone in the sports world. No matter what he says, he cares about his perception; a lot. His 0 is now less valuable than a sole loss on his resume to Pacquiao. He would gain more respect and admiration, and atg ranking if he fights and loses than if he doesn't fight and keeps his 0. I think that there is hesitation from both sides, but now the ball is back in Arum's court because he can say yes or no. On the other hand, it is definitely a power play, and one that should get the public on his side.

These *******s are reaching for no reason at all. This is a good thing and hopefully we can get this fight done this time around if Manny gets pass JMM.

    Exactly.

The best date for a fight plus the best venue (and same venue that Pac's last two fights have been held).

Mayweather already agreed to 50/50 even though he probably shouldn't have. Gloves and all other specifics of the fight were agreed to before.

Pacquiao (supposedly) agreed to the drug tests.

    No excuse.

Floyd is fighting may 5th at the MGM regardless, that has nothing to do with Manny directly. They want Manny, they acknowledge his drug testing acceptance, and want to make this fight happen. Nothing to do with pissing anyone off, and certainly not a ploy. This is really silly, and I don't understand why anyone wouldn't be happy about this development. I dont get all the butthurt crybaby stuff from PAC fans.
