Hello fellow ESB'ers i have been doing some research online and came across the subject of refuel/ refeed days and on this forum there has been threads about cheat days which are a form of refeed days. I just wanted to know the views of anyone with experience or knowledge on this topic.

Cheat meals are not part of a diet, more a physchological thing.

I've never heard of "refuel/ refeed days".

I have some knowledge and i have tried cheat days before.
First cheat days were good for me mentally because its waseasier to train hard and stay on a strict diet if i knew i could satisfy my cravings. I was still losing weight so why not? Then i got injured and that cheat day became a cheat week etc.

Refuel and refeed days are more of a bodybuilding thing i think. Its basicly for people who are "cutting" and its a day where they carb up to replinish stores after a duration of low carb fuelled excercise for fatloss. The added calories supossedly helps recovery.

I personally think cheat days COULD work and be usefull for some people. If you have a person who is training hard and eating a strict diet, they might not be consuming enough calories to recover so the added calories on the "cheat day" could be usefull + again the mental aspect. OP read up on it like you have been and maybe try it to see what you think.

I strongly recommend you going to Lyle McDonalds website and reading some of his articles. The man is a genious in my opinion, and he dosen't talk bull****/"broscience" as many people refer to it as. Refeed days are more often used by bodybuilders as pichuchu said when someone is 'cutting', especially when one is doing it at a larger deficit. Basically they are used to try and restore the effects of the calorie deficit on the persons hormones, and obviously psychologically to enjoy the extra food for a couple of days, to keep people sane while eating lesser amounts of food. People take any amount of time for refeeds, not just a day or so. Im not sure on this, but i think i read that scientifically it takes more than the 24-hours to restore the effect of eating under maintenance on your hormones, thats why i think some people take about 3-7days for a proper refeed.

Read that aswell. Bodybuilders who are cutting usually do 1-2 day a fortnight but thats while cutting when they finish there show its a month or so of stuffing there faces. LUCKY *******S

Really? You don't view them as part of a diet, mind if i ask why? And i also see the physchological aspect.

So you advise them? They worked for you? Mind going into a bit more detail? And i have been reading on all 3 but because theres conflicting statements im somewhat confused

A cheat meal is just for people that can't control the urge to eat **** food. For some of these people sometimes it gets too much and they go mad eating shitty foods. By allowing a cheat meal it somewhat lowers the urge for bad food in a controlled way.

Cheat meals are in no way a specific part of a diet as it can be anything with however many calories you want within reason.

Yup agree with virus. Just wanted to add that in my opinion there is no such thing as shitty or bad foods as long as your training hard enough once in a while aint gona hurt you and mentally it helps!

I'm far from being of reference on the subject but for me a cheat meal doesn't really mean junk food or bad food, it just mean I'm gonna eat until I'm so full that I'll roll around everywhere....but still **** processed food !;)

If you have a 'carb loading' day, expect a few things; bloating, putting on a lot of temporary weight (so if you're fighting in a few days, don't do it) and lastly, you'll **** a lot.

    Jdsm:

Is that going to happen if you only have one cheat meal a day, instead of a "carb loading day?"

plus what does your diet look like? just curious.

One cheat meal, within reason, won't have a huge effect on your weight, unless you REALLY, REALLY pig out.

I'm going to get back on my training log, I've been ridiculously busy recently, but I'll get back on it, probably tomorrow. My calories are generally between 2750-3000 though.
