Maybe one well-known fight and another lesser-known/underrated fight per week? The goal would be to actually study and discuss the film of these fights, instead of just going back and forth with the usual boxing forum cliches and boxrec/Ring rankings fare. I was thinking about starting this by using posts from the “what fights did you watch today” thread. I think this could be a positive contribution to the forum but it would only work if people are actually willing to watch one or two fights a week. Would anyone be interested in this? Any thoughts or suggestions?
Completely serious here: If this catches on, eventually one of the fights should be Corbett vs. Fitzsimmons. EDIT: And many of the other early films should be sprinkled in. We don't see a lot of technical analysis on these, most of the time. They're mostly shoved into threads about old vs. modern, or as one piece of the mcvey/Mendoza wars, or as evidence in a Fitzsimmons vs. Duran thread, or a "hey, guys, look at how clean this footage is!" thread, or whatever. Rarely as standalone fights to be closely analyzed.
Good idea. How about Charley Burley vs Oakland Billy Smith? Sugar Ray Robinson vs Randy Turpin? I'd like to see it, but I think we'd need a longer decent quality version than what's on Youtube.
I’ve been closely studying McGovern vs. Gans (I’ve watched it many times over the years but have been considerably closer to it recently) and McGovern’s Duran-esque uppercut on the inside blows me away every time I see it.
