Too early to say he's not the same, he had only 1 fight so far, some more and we'll be sure.

Great fighter at 130-135 lbs (Nowhere near top 10 AT)
ATG, not enough (No classics under his belt, No wars, nothing that will last)

Its too soon to tell. A boxers carreer is best looked at in hindsight. Mayweather pissed off a lot of people and so its too soon to view the guy objectively. He's one of the greatest boxers to some, a fraud who avoided the best to others. To me he's a fighter who always got the job done. Brilliant tactician. Yet so much was left unanswered. People will be talking about his defensive techniques for a long time.

I don't think Mayweather's leaving any more unfinished business than, say, Lennox.

In the grand scheme of things, a few forum haters notwithstanding, time has been pretty kind to Lennox.

But we all have to admit - in twenty years, that undefeated record is going to look pretty damn good.

Problem is, nowadays, with Boxrec, professional boxers like Mayweather can't hide. We know who he competed against and who he didn't.

So actually, though he may be slightly glorified, I actually don't think his ATG status will change much over time.

he was a great fighter at 130 and 135. his career above those weights, left more to be desired.

No, no, no, just stop it!!!

    We CAN'T give Mayweather credit!

Forget about five world titles in multiple weight classes, forget the multi-millions of dollars in revenue he generated, forget the countless amounts of time we weighed how he would fare against his competition, forget his victories over Corrales, Gatti, Judah, De La Hoya, Hatton, Corley, Castillo, and his gig with Dancing with the Stars!!!

We CANNOT give him his credit!!!

    Sarcasm anyone?

    Seriously, I couldnt agree more.

One of the best ever at 135 (H2H I would only put Duran and Whitaker as above him at that weight). One of the top 3 or 4 fighters of this era. Top 50 ATG without arguement. One of the most talented fighters ever to step through the ropes (SRR, SRL, RJJ and Whitaker jump into mind automatically...but he is IN THAT CLASS...says alot). Like you said the titles, the weight classes, the resume (great...but not SUPERB and definately not as good as his skills would have allowed...but great none the less), etc.

How can anyone not give this guy credit???

I cant really stand him myself, but my god do I respect him in the ring...

(I for one dont think he is fully "retired" yet...but doesnt matter...give the man his due)

I don't like the man very much.

if he really is retired, part of the speculation must go to a possible nervousness about the big money fight that was coming up.

Family dynamics etc, with Daddy in the opposite corner. IMO, Oscar has the best chance of anyone of beating him. I don't feel that either Cotto or Marg have the tools. Only possible more dangerous fight: Shane.

All that said, he is unbeaten. He's ducked nobody. (Sure, he could have fought Cotto, but I don't believe he was scared of him.)

And even though he might be worried about the Oscar rematch, Floyd would have to be the betting favourite in that one.

No matter who he beats, there'll always be somebody more, and whenever he quits, they'll say he ducked so-and-so.

He's nowhere near as good as HE thinks he is, but he's the best in the business at this point. He's held titles in five divisions and beaten good opposition.

And for all that, he must be given credit, whatever you might think of him.

Beating Hernadez to win his first title in his 19th fight
Beating Gatti worse whopping than any one sided fight I seen, besides Calzghe VS lACY AND Tito vs Hop
    Moving up 6 weight Classes

But their are fights I wish I could see, but him and Jones made boxing a business

hes probably the best ever at 130 h2h hes one of best ever at 135 above that his resume left a lot to be desired but he only went up for the big bucks and de la hoya his natural weight is probs 135-140...no matter who he beats theres always the next guy and the next guy so he'll never win to some

Yep, this is how I see it too, a fighters legacy isn't decided when he retires or by the people who watched him in his era. It is decided a generation or so down the line. When those kids are sitting around talking about old great fighters and they look at Mayweathers record, videos of his training, the highlight reels from his career and then consider the different weight classes he fought in and all the belts he accumulated.

I'm sorry but Margarito (maybe even Cotto too) will fade into insignificance against that. He will be remembered as one of the top ATG. I wasn't around in the era of Joe Louis, Ali, Ray Robinson & LaMotta, Duran, Leonard, prime Hagler & Hearns but I'm pretty sure that all of these guys had their fair share of nay-sayers, **** talkers & haters back in their day.
