He wasnt losing, he was taking it easy, experimenting with the defense. But he does seem flatfooted, I think once canelo faces a guy faster with power he will get stopped.

That was Canelo's normal style of fighting when confronted with a guy that will aggressively pressure him in a skillful manner and throw a lot of punches, as Gomez did. Canelo will be a more defensive counterpuncher the whole fight under those circumstances. Alvarez's competition prior to this masked this tendency because N'Dou, Hatton, and Rhodes all came to survive and pick up a paycheck against Canelo, none of them tried to win. For all his hype and talent, Alvarez has some pretty obvious flaws. Luckily for him he has get-out-of-jail power along with such backing that he gets a mega-quick stoppage in this fight, and on the judges cards he was winning the fight 49-45(x2) and 50-44 so Gomez was going to have to score a KO to win anyway.

This is a joke right ???

Canelo is the most over rated fighter in world boxing right now , im not saying he has no talent , im not saying he has no potential , im saying Alfonso Gomez was giving him angles , workrate and combinations that he could not deal with , imagine what the top echelon of 154 lb'ers would do to Canelo off the back of that showing

Off the stoppage one shot hurt Gomez , and that was the initial uppercut , the rest looked hard and flashy but were not hurting Gomez , the proof is in the pudding with Alvarez , his shots look hard and nasty because he throws everything into them and they are normally well placed , there fore they land , but Mathew Hatton and Ryan Rhodes stayed in with Alvarez for a combined 22 rounds without ever really feeling fatal fight ending damage (Rhodes at the time of the stopage IMO could of continued if he hadnt of gassed) , that says it all

Im sorry but Alvarez was losing this fight , and the stoppage was pre mature

Gomez had a good gameplan and was executing it pretty well. I had him winning the first round until the flash knockdown and most of the rounds until the stoppage.

Gomez was rocked and against the ropes and should have taken a knee. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure California rules don't have a standing 8 count because that would have been ideal.

    Premature stoppage, definitely.

He was going to finish him off in the next round. If you watched closely, Gomez was so hurt that after the stoppage he could barely stand on his own two, he was stumbling around.

Gomez fought well. He fought low in a crouch like style which had the tall standing Canelo confused. Once Alvarez realized the uppercuts and hooker-cuts would be more effective (A little too late) than his regular 1-2 and left hook, he had figured Gomez out and got him out of there. The stoppage was way too premature, obviously, which is a shame. It's as if Gomez didn't really even get an opportunity.

If nothing was hurting Gomez, then why was he stumbling around like a whino after the stoppage?

If Gomez had gotten out of the round, which was nearly finished, then he probably would have recovered because his recuperation time is pretty fast based on his history. He was also completely fine when they interviewed him about two minutes later and was hardly stumbling around like a wino, he had a slight stumble walking immediately after the stoppage and then was sat down to get a check by the doctor. Canelo may have still been able to take him out in that round legitimately, but we'll never know.

I was very dissapointed with not only the primetime comentary, but the the thread aftet thread of eveyone saying he was underperforming.

It was so blatently obvious that he was trying out some new defensive techniques and had the fight in control. I myself know just about the tip of the iceberg when it comes to boxing, but if you guys couldn't see that you must be blind.

Is this the same Gomez that was wearing a big smile when the ref waived off the fight  .................

Seriously dude , i mean seriously ??? :huh

If it was defense he was working on , why was he being hit flush with combo's practically everytime Gomez wanted to land / throw , he was confused and baffled by some very very basic movement

What ever anyone says , it was a shocker of a performance by a world champion / future elite level fighter , in some people's eyes ..................
