I was thinking the same thing as I was watching the fight, He could have went after Gomez with combos any time he wanted to and overpowered him. He was looking to work on his defense.

He did get clocked pretty good, especially whenever he dropped his left.

Im a fan of canelos but at the same time i root for the underdog no matter what.I felt ****ed up for gomez cause he was doing pretty ****en good for himself in there and yes it was a bs stoppage they didnt even give him the chance to throw a ****en punch before it got stopped. They protected canelo

Two things: gomez won all but a minute of that fight, but it was clear right away ANY flush shot would take him out.

Maybe Canelo was working on defense ... BUT HE WAS GIVING AWAY ROUNDS TO DO IT. Not a good strategy or something to rely on. Some day you aren't going to be able to knock out the guy you think you can, and then you gave up ten rounds and its too late to fix. THATS THE STUFF YOU WORK ON IN SPARRING, NOT A TITLE FIGHT.

Poor strategy but luckily Gomez, while he could win rounds, was on borrowed time.

I will put money on Canelo stopping Cotto.

He was experimenting with Gomez and it showed. He basically carried him but the thing is he started losing rounds. I do agree he lost the rounds based on Gomez aggression but as soon as he realized it he stopped him. I think he wanted to KO Gomez cold. The last 2 rounds he was letting Gomez unload and trying to time him with a big shot. Probably to pay him back for all the insults leading to the fight.

Tito Trinidad let this happen to him in fights, but only against elite opposition. Power is sometimes a curse when it isn't quite enough to get the job done. That's why Ponce and Valero will always be X factors in fantasy fights, and hard to determine if they would win or lose a match.

Gomez was fighting a brilliant fight. He was boxing giving angles using a jab he got caught didn't go down and got a BS stoppage. No way was Gomez gonna win a decison anyway. Anyone have the judges scorecards at the time of the stoppage? They probably had the fight for Canelo.

I felt the ref stepped in too quickly, but the outcome was going to be the same. It will take a tougher opponent to bring out Canelo's full skill. Bring on the winner of Cotto Margarito or the winner of Angulo Kirkland.

This is the third time i have seen this kid. I am not in a hurry to scoop up and buy another PPV with him headlining again. No disrespect but the kid is boring to watch.

This is OT but I wish Valero hadn't killed himself, I always wanted to know how far would he have gotten with just pure power
