Say what you like about Floyd, but this is one argument that is brought up often and makes absolutely no sense.

Bare in mind I would agree with you if you argued that Floyd should've fought Cotto after defeating Ricky Hatton rather than retiring - That was a fight he overlooked and most people will agree on that.

Mayweather had the choice of fighting Antonio Margarito, a top contender in the Welterweight division, or fighting the lineal undisputed welterweight champion for slightly more money (In Carlos Baldomir) coming off victories against two name fighters - Judah and Gatti. One a former champion of the division himself, and the other a former titlist in a number of weightclasses. Margarito had beaten virtually noone of note.

To suggest Mayweather should've fought Margarito at this point in time is ludicrous.

And for those who disagree - Name me ONE example, in the last 130 years or so of gloved boxing, where a fighter was MALIGNED for fighting the champion of his division, regardless of whether it was perceived to be the easier fight or not.

When has a fighter EVER been criticized for fighting the top dog in his division? Answer me that.

Pac-Hatton!!! Some think he should have fought an african american fighter instead of facing the guy that was considered the best junior welterweight at that time which was Hatton.

There's alot more to it than that. First off, Floyd didn't go straight for Baldomir, he went after his left overs in Zab Judah. Secondly he could have fought Margarito anytime after that, but choose a past it DLH and Ricky Hatton who everybody knew was pretty limited.

I really don't get why people defend Mayweather. He has gone down on the record saying he didn't want to fight Margarito because the risk wasn't worth the reward as opposed to Hatton and DLH who represented huge paydays but at a far lesser risk.

The fact is after the Castillo fights Mayweather stopped taking risks in the ring as that was the last great fighter he faced in their prime (and no Hatton was not a great fighter). The track record speaks for its self, he waits for dangerous fighters to be beaten (Like Tszyu and Margarito) and than moves in on their victors as long they have a style he can deal with.

The problem now is that he is boxed in, because he has to fight Pacquiao. You can debate who was to blame about derailing their March fight, but Pacquiao has now agreed to all the terms Floyd has originally set, and now Floyd speaks of retirement like there is nothing left to proof. Sorry, but I call bull****. I also found his first "retirement" rather suspicious as it was the same time Cotto was steam rolling everybody at Welterweight.
