Yep. I've heard so much, "Mosley was coming forward in the later rounds, making Cotto go back." They say this like that means he won the rounds. this just isn't the case. If you don't land punches, you don't win rounds.

Exactly. You can chase a guy around for 12 rounds but if you don't land the cleaner, more effective punches, you don't win the well-scored fight. That simple.

If you thought Cotto won, I've got a fighter I want you to watch. He's recommended for narcolepsy, goes by the name of Floyd...

Looking at the punch stat numbers (and how I viewed the fight) this is a terribly innacurate assessment of the fight. The landed punches were near even and Mosely threw more and had Cotto going back. I shouldn't have to explain that throwing more punches is generally eye catching to judges and that activity (as long as its effective) does count for something. I also shouldn't have to explain that Ring Generalship is one of the 4 judging criteria and when you make the non-stop pressure fighter pedal backwards for the championship rounds, that also should count for something. On top of the stats and all of these facts the truth is...it didn't feel like Cotto won the fight. He went into survival mode and didn't fight like a champion. Shane did. I had Shane by 1 point and I could understand a draw but I don't see Cotto winning the fight. At the end of close fights I always ask myself two things: How did I score it and who does it FEEL like won the fight. At the end of the night Cotto (who I like quite a bit as a fighter and I have never been a crazy Shane fan or anything) didn't seem like the winner to me.

I dont remeber Mosley getting rocked in the 9th round. If you are claiming that Mosley got him retreating with inneffective punches that doesn't speak highly of Cotto.

The majority of people here, the majority boxing media, and the judges obviously saw things differently.

Not to mention the fact that Mosley really didn't win too many rounds up through the 9th doesn't play too well into the various conspiracy theories either. In addition, Cotto still managed to land the harder shots on Shane when Cotto was on the backfoot. I had the fight coming out as a draw, but was overly generous with Shane in the first six and cannot see for the life of me why anyone here sees a controversy or wants to compare Cotto to Taylor.

cotto did not beat mosely. he fought like a wuss in the championship rounds, losing rds 9,10,11,12. No way he beat shane. I had it a draw, which I felt was the proper decision.

I agree with him losing 9-12. But I had the fight even going into the 9th.

I was actually cheering for Mosley, but I think Cotto won the fight. Either he won or it was a draw. He was counterpunching effectively at times when Shane was just moving forward not really landing anything of significance.
