It also has to do with where your feet are ..The best example is Jones Tarver 2 ..Look at where his feet are ,and the leverage Traver puts on that shot !
Note: before those bombs, Mosley clashed heads with Forrest which Mosley later said (if I recall)...his equilibrium was thrown off for the rest of the fight. Now of course, the big problem was also being caught flush by a big right hand from Forrest who was known for his power with the right. Plus, let's not forget those damn USA flag shorts seem to be bad-luck.
The more I think about, the OP is, right. Cause I actually use the phrase more often when someone is taking bombs...for instance, Kessler vs. Andrade. I kept thinking "how the hell is he taking these bombs? These would KO anyone else."
Exactly. I keep hearing people say "oh anyone else would have also been hurt by that shot" after the Mayweather/Shane fight for example. Not true... Hell Cotto took some hellacious shots from Shane and so did Oscar and so did other people... Margarito took like a hundred before finally being hurt then KO'd. There are people who have monstrous punch resistance and will take certain punches that KO'd other people, just the way it is.
The shot Pac landed on Hatton was just PERFECT...shots like that just don't land often. That was the textbook definition of a perfect punch, and I doubt if, under the same circumstances, anyone at that weight would have survived it. Pacquiao put his entire body into that punch. You can see the whole left side of his body twist whilst landing the shot.
Mavrovic would've taken it. He ate a shitload of uppercuts from Lewis in their fight, and other big shots as well. Mavrovic's punch resistance was unreal that night.
That's the main argument guys make up to defend a fighter's weak chin. It's usually a fighter they happen to like.
It's always amazed me how this bout wasn't stopped in that 2nd round...Mosley took some hell shots and was clearly out on his feet. I've definitely seen bouts stopped for less. And yeah...in all likelihood, a 140lb Mosley would have taken that shot what connected to Hatton's jaw from Pacquiao. He most likely would have been rocked, or may have touched down (the shots you don't see...)...but I doubt he would have been out cold like Hatton. Hatton was put out like that because of the punishment he took in the two rounds, plus the fact any half decent shot was troubling him in his last few bouts. All the years of moving up and down in weight, and blocking punches with his face took there toll...starting shortly after his move upto 147lbs...
Or to make their favorite fighter look devastating... The TS is right imo. I've seen boxers take shots that would probably send me in a coma, and just suck it up or miraculously getting up from it. Holmes is already mentioned, the hook Ruddock took from Morrison, and Ali took the biggest shots of the biggest punchers of his era (you know who he fought) and never got KO'd by it. Ali paid the price later on, but at least he took it on the evening.
Damn! The sound of Jackson´s hand connecting to Norris is just weird. As if you smash a basketball to the ground PS: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BH6LvUS__M[/ame] 32 seconds, 1.07 minutes, 2.21, 3.18. That was so unreal, what these two were trading. Still have goosebumps when seeing this video
Good post! I tend to agree with you, though I do think that the punch that Manny caught Hatton with would at least spell the beginning of the end for other 140 pounders.
Wrong Pryor could have taken it Mosley and JCC could have taken it and PBF could have taken it Oscar could have taken it. Alot of guys could have taken it.
