Here's a question: How many people with no bias whatsoever (no lost VCash at stake; no Mexican heritage; no documented dislike for Peterson for whatever reason, whether the reason be indirect carryover hatred of Bradley or something less convoluted) think this was some super controversial travesty, where Ortiz clearly deserved to win by more than a couple of points? Don't get me wrong - I feel that they split the rounds about evenly and with the knockdowns Ortiz is a clear winner...as most objective fans seem to have indicated feeling. Someone settling for a draw in a fight where they only ought to have won by the strength of the points differential from a couple of knockdowns is NOT an example of someone getting horribly screwed in this sport. It diminishes REAL travesties when you point to something like this as an example of one. :deal There is no reason to imply that there was any corruption on the part of the judges (which is a REAL problem that we all know does occur in our beloved pasttime)...or even gross incompetence. Some official judges saw some rounds differently than you did. Does this not happen on an almost weekly basis? Did Ortiz REALLY dominate enough rounds with enough crystal clarity for such prolonged outrage? There is no "L" on his record. His ranking has not been affected. A "W" that he seemed to earn (especially with the knockdowns) slipped through his fingers. Oh well. Not the end of the world, and not the worst injustice in boxing of 2010, let alone one for the record books. He's young and can still keep working toward his world title aspirations without skipping a beat. Victor's career really didn't suffer any profound setbacks here. By the amount of moaning you'd think his livelihood had just been fed through a sausage grinder.
Ortiz was robbed. He should have gone all out and knocked Peterson out though. Ortiz had a 10-7 round!
Its funny HBO and Dan Rafael both had it wide for Ortiz but neither seemed to complain about the decision.
Ortiz was the clear winner in my opinion. No disrespect to Peterson, who did a great job getting back into the fight. He took enough early rounds, including the 10 - 7 one, to deserve the win. He hasn't mentaly recovered from the Maidana loss. He looked very reluctant in his offense at times, but did enough to win.
Ortiz won the fight. But he looked really really poor. That movement he was giving had absolutely NO purpose. That was simply Ortiz's version of being a boxer puncher. His trainers have Ortiz so confused about his identity. He is an aggressive boxer puncher. He will always probably need to rely on his offense as his defense. They should be looking to maximize his assets and help him hide the flaws he can't fully rectify. Instead they got him totally gun shy and fighting out of character, which is why he looks so stiff, unsure, and passive for long periods of a round. Even when it is clear his opponent can't really keep him off of him.
I scored the rounds: 1 - 10-9 Ortiz 2 - 10-9 Peterson 3 - 10-7 Ortiz 4 - 10-9 Ortiz 5 - 10-9 Ortiz I haven't watched the last five rounds but will have to re-watch the fight. There is a possibility its a draw if Peterson won the last five rounds.
I love how some of those fights the fighters were not really that hurt and they stop the fight. Then one guy gets KTFO stiff and the ref was counting atsch
Im not mexican, didnt have any money on the fight and dont care much for both fighters. I watched the fight with no comentary and to me ortiz clearly won. He lost the last 3 rounds, of the first 7 rounds there were 2 rounds that were close in my eyes, round 2 and another one. I gave them both to ortiz because he landed harder and cleaner while peterson was hitting gloves with his jab the whole time. Even if we give those 2 rounds to the guy he still loses 95-93. To me ortiz won for sure and got robbed.
I thought Ortiz should have gotten the decision. Peterson was coming on at the end of the fight but I still don't think he won more than 5 possibly 6 at best but even if the rounds were 6-6 Ortiz had the 2 knockdowns. Ortiz didn't look great to me in that fight he simply seems to be missing something. He's still a good fighter but I don't quite see him fulfilling his early promise. A rematch wouldn't be a bad idea in this case.
