I still like the JuanMa Vs. WV2 fight... Why not both have nothing to lose in this fight. (Weight might be an issue tho)
:bart Tell it to Eugenio Lopez, Rafael Marquez, Steve Luevano (Mexican-American), Daniel Ponce De Leon, or the dozen other Mexicans he knocked out early on.
well...he's had a rough stretch that would alter anyone's career (or basically end it). its going to be tough for him to get back to the top despite being only 29. Now, danny lopez lost three of four fights and was written off before going on quite a run as champ. shane mosely had a 6 fight stretch where he only won once and even that win was disputed and he ultimately went on to destroy margarito when he was all but dismissed. its not impossible but i wouldnt bet on it. he's taken a pounding of the past few years.
He should have gotte rid of Caraballo a LONG time ago. Also after his layoff he shouldn't have comeback at 126.
for starters...he can get rid of his management, trainer and promoter and get with someone who understands how to rebuild him. he needs a trainer that can teach him to correct his mistakes. he should forget about fighting on tv for a while and fight some soft touches to correct his flaws. once he's solid in his new found skills...make another run or just fight at the gate keeper level.
3 cup cake opponents over the next year and then a shot at the worst titlist in his division sounds about the only logical route at giving him both a chance and a payday.
to the right person? maybe. someone just needs to put it all in perspective for him...explain it in simple terms that will help him understand. i'm not saying the guy is stupid, but most fighters need to be protected from themselves in situations like these. it takes a lot of pride/ego to get to the level he was on. putting all of that to the side by admitting defeat and going back the drawing board can be a difficult thing for all parties involved. part of it is listening to the trainer...there's also the trust factor and just going through the motions of creating new/good habits by returning to the basic fundamentals.
This. Lopez looked BAD, if you didn't know any better you woulda thought the first bout was the main event and the second was just a time filler. He couldn't close the distance at all, reaching with every shot falling all over the place just hoping to lay a glove on Garcia. Garcia just had to take a half step back, wait until Lopez was finished stumbling and lace him with one.
I guess what I really meant was that I think he's done at the top of any of the divisions. He could fight for some paydays though.
Am I the only guy who thinks Lopez is shot and needs to call it a day. Every shot including the jab by Garcia had him stunned and whirling about which is the way shot fighters react and his extremely late reaction to countering was a clear sign its time to hang them up. I think he is a bit punch drunk and needs to retire before he suffers irreparable harm or worse.
