I was thinking yesterday about Savon getting robbed by Anthony in the round of 16. He didn't even get a chance to fight for a bronze medal. He trains year round every year since he was little and beat all the best fighter in his competitive country of Cuba to qualify for the Olympics.
He goes into the competition and boxes beautifully in a match that most people thought he won and if not, they thought it could go either way. But too bad for him, he gets ROBBED by the hometown fighter. Oh well Savon, good luck when you compete in FOUR YEARS!!

A lot of fighters claim winning the gold was the biggest/harsest thing they have down in their careers. Then you get fighters like Roy Jones Jr, Savon, Floyd, the Japanese fighter from yesterday, who go out there and represent their countries and come this far along just to be robbed. :-(

Do you think there is a worse feeling in boxing than getting robbed in the Olympics?

it sucks for these guys because there's no pay day for the fight, plus the scoring system is beyond ridiculous. many, many fighters have not gotten a fair shake.

It must suck to have your life's goal snatched away by incompetent judges; especially at a young age.

Shimizu Satoshi the japanese fighter got a win they changed it to a 3rd RSC but I really don't think there is a worst feeling than getting robbed at the olympics. You work so hard for 4 years only to find out that you lose because of a bull**** decision. Unlike world title fights were you can get one for paying money to a sanctioning body now days the olympics are just something else.

The RJJ robbery is arguably the worst in the history of the sport. Still sickens me today.:-(

The Roy Jones one was the worst.

    It bothered him for years.

That was one of the reasons why he never went to germany to fight DM.

    And unlike other wrong decisions/robberies.

The Roy Jones one it was proved later that the judges were corrupted.

I dont know how the korean after getting beat so clearly got the nerve to accept the medal.

If it was me i would feel embarrassed to accept something i clearly didnt deserve.

i cant imagine how shitty it would feel. Everything you've worked your whole life for up to that point taken away from you..It has to be the worst. The fact that they never gave RJJ the gold after it was proven the judges were corrupt is a travesty. I think thats why theres so little talent in the heavyweight division today. If you're a promising athlete who in their right mind would want to get into an unregulated sport with so much corruption. America has plenty of amazing athletes but they'd just rather go into football, basketball, etc then risk it all with the BS that goes on in boxing.

Everyone who doesn't make their living from commenting on British boxing is, yes. Something about vested interests maybe.

It's certainly the worst feeling for a Cuban. There is no millionaire lifestyle coming up for Savon now, he probably has to work in a factory or something while the stiff robot Joshua will be ranking in a fortune off of the Inselaffe.

Jones turned it into a positive though - it made him the powerpunching and aggressive fighter he became.

I don't think it changed Roy's fighting style much, if at all. Even in the amateurs, he was a flashy fighter relying on his fast hands and natural power.

Roy fought aggressively when he felt like it (Griffin II) and coasted through fights when he didn't.

It sucks for the older fighters who represent them not very well off type of countries.
Becuse the OLY's is their life... And nothing awaits them afterwards.
    (For the most part)

Other fighters from countries more fortunate always have the pro game.
