http://news.gofightlive.tv/2011/01/prescott-khan-is-obviously-afraid/ Following an embarrassing performance at the New Year's Eve Dynamite show, Shinya Aoki is contemplating retirement. Aoki fought a "mixed rules" bout against Yuichiro "Jienotsu" Nagashima, where he survived the initial kickboxing round (a round that saw Aoki kill time off the clock by falling to the ground, clinching, and various other tactics), only to be brutally knocked out by a flying knee during the MMA round. After the loss to Nagashima, Aoki received many comments from MMA fans that were insulting, and very discouraging, to the point of where he is contemplating quitting MMA. He even went as far as to delete his Twitter, @waoki, although MMAfighting.com also reported that he started a new one under the alias @jyotaronawo. Will we see a return of the "Tobikan Judan"? We will await to hear the upcoming fight announcements from DREAM, and even though he's expressed interest in coaching at the DEEP gym (if he retires), I suspect we haven't seen the last of Aoki in MMA.
His arrogance in going for an immediate td as sloppy as he did saw him deserve to be sparked for spoiling in the first round. It was ironic justice of the highest order! But the guy has some sick sub skills. He should rematch Alvarez, whatever he does he still has a future IMO. His actual fighting skill is pathetic though, he'll have to be matched carefully IMO his confidence seems really shot this time.
he should have been DQ'd in the first, but survived only to get KO'd in the MMA round. Karma is a funny thing.
He'd get ****ed. PROPER ****ed. Aoki is a one trick pony. He has an excellent sub game but he's striking is completely non-existent which makes him completely insignificant at the top level in MMA. Im afraid he's arrogance is the cause of this. Id be highly surprised if he did call it quits as Japanese MMA is pretty much hinged on his success. Right now Japanese MMA really REALLY doesn't need his retirement. Anyway this is more than likely him licking his wounds publicly. He's not going anywhere.
Got to admit id probably laugh my ass off if he got KO'ed routinely Caol Uno style (BJ Penn). Aoki's and ******* anyway. He's done this to himself. Maybe he loves playing the heel as per Japanese MMA. But he's lost alot of fans in the West. And many are rooting against him.
funny ass aoki moment during butt scoot at 6:30, couldn't find it anywhere else. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSNU1X5VfFs[/ame]
