"Peter said he will be ready to fight again in two months, but it's more likely his share of the heavyweight title -- there are three other champions, as well -- won't be on the line until early next year. He mentioned Maskaev and IBF champ Wladimir Klitschko as potential opponents. Klitschko is the only man to beat Peter, who is 29-1. "Anybody that will be ready, I'll be ready in two months," Peter said. "Klitschko, if he's ready I am ready."

I think this would be great because BOTH guys would be able to stop the other in my opinion with Wlad, clearly, being a big favorite. Let's get it on!

Wladimir should wait for a Peter fight to be worthwhile, as in Peter having the real WBC belt, not the paper interim one that he now has.

Vitali should take Peter up on the offer though. He should be ready within 2 months or so.

It's all just tough talk a la James Toney. If Peter is smart he'll fight Maskaev next to legitimize his belt. Right now beating Peter ain't worth nearly as much.

Exactly. Right now he's just borrowing the WBC title.

If its Vitali why bother, the guy cant even make it past training let alone a fight. If its Wlad its a very interesting match up, Wlad is the obvious favorite but Peter still can put on his ass and possibly out for good. Wlad is the supreme boxer, but has the weaker of the 2 chins. The first fight was exciting and competitive, I would love to see the rematch.

After the fight on Saturday, I am convinced that Peter's chances against Wlad are not that great.

But he can KO the good doctor. He CAN do it.

    Right.

But the next fight that Peter will be in will obviously be Oleg Maskaev. Maskaev will be healed and ready to rumble by early next year.

I think we'll see Maskaev and Peter go at it, then Vitali will fight the winner. :good

But I wonder if the healed Vitali will wait for the winner, which probably won't be ready til mid to late 2008, or attempt another comeback fight in the meantime............? You'd think he'd take a warmup fight, first, rather than sit idle for that much longer, seeing as how his back is probably supposed to be healed and ready for training to restart in about three more weeks.

    Peter should fight Oleg first?

Because all he has is a "paper championship?"

    ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Every champ right now is only a "paper champion". Peter is ranked #2 by a majority of people, and Wlad looks all but unbeatable. You guys think the #1 and #2 HW shouldn't fight for the true HW championship of the world, based on a technicality?

Wlad MIGHT AS WELL already be the champion of the heavyweight division. Let's hurry up and make it official so we can FINALLY have a true lineage again. Jesus Christ.

What technicality is standing in the way of Wlad fighting Chagaev?

( ......you did say the #1 and #2, didn't you?........) :good

Exactly. Scam Cheater is not #2 in the world. No one who gets knocked around the ring by Jameel McCline is #2 in the world.

Either of the brothers would probably KO him within 7-8 rounds. Wlad is steadily improving in skill and confidence since the Peter fight, and Vitaly's akward style would befuddle Peter all night long. Vitaly seems like hes the harder one to hit cleanly but Wlad punches harder and is more technically polished imo. Either way I can't see peter beating either of them at this point. Of course I am assuming Vitaly would fightas effectively as he did when he retired....
