Nah, man. I wouldn't advise Khan to press at all against Mayweather, he was off balance numerous times against Maidana, he was overreaching so much...Maidana just didn't take advantage of it. Khan would try to attack, lean forward to throw the punches, but his feet didn't go with him...instead of repositioning to throw the punch, he threw them anyway and missed by miles, which in turn left him wide open and off balance. He's just not ready for Mayweather, he has a lot to learn before he gets in with someone of the experience and talent of Mayweather. It wouldn't be like Khan-Malignaggi either, IMO.
Vs Floyd the pressing should always start with the jab, and not the type over over press which would leave him off balance. I feel Khan's speed and jab would put Floyd in a shell, his natural game of covering up. Khan is one of the only fighters with the speed to land and get away in a flash. I am not saying Khan would beat Floyd, but I do feel with a bit more tuning under Roach Khan has the tools to give an aging Floyd problems, speed and make fighters look old over night, If Khan fights Floyd next year Floyd be like 35yr where Khan will be 25 and improving all the time.
Mayweather is a young 34, and has only shown signs of inactivity, and not aging. Khan may have early success, but Mayweather will time that jab...once that happens, Khan will be left without a gameplan (without a gameplan he can execute anyway). Khan needs major improvement, along with Mayweather showing serious decline before he has a good shot.
Thing we don't know what effects this inactivity will have, I have already seen signs of Floyd not using his legs as much, he would need his legs vs a fast fighter like Khan.
Not really, his foot speed isn't as fast as it once was, but his footwork is still great. Once he sees his opponent even looking like they are going to attack, he is out of range in a flash. The problem with Khan at the minute is, and what he will pick up with experience, is when he should attack...I could just see it now, Khan thinks he is in a position to land, overreaches, Mayweather steps back and lands with a straight right...and repeat. The Mayweather that beat Mosley vs the Khan that beat Maidana, or Malignaggi...Mayweather wins via TKO.
I can see Khan pining Floyd on the ropes because his speed and jab bit like the Floyd vs ODH, Khan just need to land fast combo and move out fast, something Roach and him would have to work on.
His defense is too open for that. Mayweather's jab to mid section, and straight right would nullify any attempts Khan makes in offense. Mayweather wouldn't even have to throw in combinations to win this bout, Khan would get reckless because he won't have much success. If I had to predict the outcome, Mayweather via TKO/KO in the 10th-11th round. Khan has already shown that he hasn't yet found the right pace to fight through 12 rounds, Mayweather would once again take advantage of this and wear him down. There are levels in boxing, Khan isn't at Mayweather's level (may never be). Khan has elite hand speed (which Mayweather also has) and elite foot speed (not footwork) going for him...and that's about it.
But I agree with you about the over reaching and losing balance, Floyd would make Khan pay for that, and I am sure is something which Roach will try to pan out from Khan.
Yeah definitely, a good number of training camps under Roach should iron those mistakes out. But even if he beats Bradley in the summer, I still wouldn't say that he's ready for a Mayweather or a Pacquiao.
The thing is Floyd won't be around for long, and Khan won't fight PAC. If the chance comes along to fight Floyd Khan won't turn it down even if many feel he is not ready. If the fight happen clearly Khan would be the underdog but timing could be everything, Khan might be fighting Floyd at the right time, I guess only time will tell.
I see the end of 2011-early/mid 2012 as the latest Mayweather-Pacquiao will happen. If GBP throw Khan in with Mayweather up to that point, Khan receives his second career loss (a very convincing loss aswell)...assuming he beats Bradley.
At 154lb Sergio would beat the **** out of Mayweather. Mayweather doesn't want any part of Maravilla... Martinez would break down Mayweather's defense and the Pretty One doesn't have any offense to keep him off of him. :smoke
