I know many successful fighters have a much longer reach than height. Sonny Liston was reportedly 6'1" with an 84 inch reach Rocky Marciano however was 5'10" with a 67 inch reach. Please enlighten me on extreme ape factors come from both ends of the spectrum.
I seem to recall reading that Old Time Irish Fighter Dan Donnally could scratch his knees without bending over ( sleight exaggeration by that Lepracorn i suspect ) but his reach was legendary, to the extent that his right arm was cut off (After Death !) pickled and put in a glass display cabinet . It was, and i suspect still is on displsay in that Irish Pub (Donnally's I think !)
Average reach for a black guy is about 3" longer than his height. Leon Spinks for instance was 6'1 with a 6'4 inch reach (76") Average reach for a white guy is about even to his height. for instance Jerry Quarry was a 6'0 white guy with a 6'0 (72") reach. The gap is not as wide as it seems because reach is measured from fingertip to fingertip, and blacks tend to have wider shoulders, which counts in reach measurements, but has no bearing in a boxing ring. What they are starting to do now is measure arm length. The reach vs. heights stats are for your average guy off the street though, obviously, boxers in general have longer reaches than normal people.
same as former flyweight champion manny pacquaio....make of that what you will (both were listed as 68" too at various stages of their careers....around time of the first walcott fight when he won the title tales of the tape listed 67"....but later it was generally 68" listed for rocky)
