Crazy to me that Mayweather-McGregor is considered an all-time high boxing gate. It was an exhibition vs a cage fighter making his debut, and he hasn't fought in the boxing ring since. It shouldn't even be on Mayweather's record.
Fought under pro boxing rules, sanctioned by the local state authority - it was a pro bout and we can do nothing about it. I will not understand why boxrec lists Paul vs Tyson tho, it was 2 minute rounds.
Canelo and Golovkin hold the current 3rd(27m) and 4th(24m) largest gates, so its not too surprising that Canelo would surpass this himself. Adjusted for inflation, that 27 million in 2017 would be more like 35 million today. Oh, and Floyd vs Manny would be 97 million... Simple estimation based on ticket sales. Could be enough indications that they will either sell enough tickets to reach that milestone, or they already have reached it.
Some fights from way back when, when adjusted up for inflation, add up to serious money and they were before PPV had even been dreamed of.
Jack Dempsey vs. Georges Carpentier! The first million dollar gate, generating roughly $1.7 million, which is about 30 million today. Dempsey´s fights with Tunney were also gigantic, first one surpassing the 30 million mark, and the second one the 50 million mark. Of course adjusted for inflation, Mike Tyson has a lot of the top honors, with several of his fights being close to 30 million if not even more.
because the tickets are sold out in advance so they know how much total it was? you think you can walk up to the window and buy a ticket to that like you can a movie?
Been to fights. Know how it works. I'm just surprised the numbers have been tallied and made public this early. Most unusual.
This is probably on Dana White, as he has always enjoyed bragging about record UFC gates before the finally tally was in. If a record is about to be broken, Dana will let you know.
