My mate said that he recently read that the Klits wrestled in high school. He can't remember where he saw it. I've got some new magazines that I'll read through and see if they are in that. World class boxers, top amateur kick boxers with some college wrestling background makes them very interesting mixed martial artists.
I don't think they will make the jump, and if they did, they won't amount to much. They are far too deep in their boxing careers as are the MMA that they will be put up against. I believe that anyone who has been wrestling or grappling all their lives and into their 30s would hold their own in MMA.
They are PhD's in physical education, so they have probably studied wrestling, but I don't think they ever competed.
I dont buy the notion that a elite boxer cant pick up enough grappling if they really wanted it to be effective at mma. Plenty of kickboxers and muay thai guys have done it...and vitali at least was a world class kickboxer...wlad knows a bit of it. Having said that...your right..they arent going to make the jump to mma...too little money for too much risk.
Guys who have sparred and fought them have said they are freashly strong in clinches...I'm sure much more then Toney. Of course you still need the skills...but I suspect that with 6 months of mma cross training they could beat all but the very best guys. You go on some mma forums.. And your get guys claming. High school wrestling champs could take them...to which I say bull ****
dude they aint james toney....hell their are good strikers who went into mma who beat top guys with less then that.
I've been big fans of theirs for about 13 years now and I gotta call bull**** on the 6 month thing. If the MMA guy stood and traded then hell yes but what you will end up with is the same as Randy. Too smart to stand and bang with a guy trained to knock your block off.
Its hard to drill sprawls when ur unathletic, fat, 42 years old with wear and tear and partial brain damage..easier when your an in your prime monster. **** some guys are in mma who only ever played football...so **** off with the idea that a boxer can't do it...but klit never will...because he made more in his last 4 fights then Coultre and lesnar have in their whole lives.
Need a little more than sprawls, and even then, some shots you just can't sprawl from (Koscheck, GSP). Again listen to David Haye, who was worked out with UK MMA fighters, not known for their wrestling ability. I'm not saying boxers can't do it, I'm saying it would take more than 6 months, way ****ing more. And don't give me he was a "world champion kickboxer" he was a minor champion in a very limited ruleset (no knees, no kicks below waist, no elbows, no clinch) with less competition. A border line top 20 guy who is very athletic could make more money as a main eventer in MMA, why don't they do it?
actually im not arguing with you that much..i think to beat the better fighters in UFC...strikeforce...they would need more then 6 months...i said they could beat the vast majority of mma fighter with 6 months training..that includes guys in small promotions.....i am making the point that boxing does matter...and that the Klitschkos are by all reports very very strong..i have heard that back when wlad lifted he would do 410 for 4 reps.....this is a guy aganst whom you would have to be strong and a very good grappler to take down..espically if he did have 6 months training...would he be likely to beat Lesnar with 6 months...i guess not...though i think if clips brock at all brock is gone.....but would he beat most guys? i think so.
