    Precisely correct.

You just highlighted the reason why Wilder is on record as saying he "looks forward to making his first mandatory defense" so many times. They'll surely allow the Povetkin mando to go to purse bid -- it'll be the biggest payday Wilder has had by a very large margin. The jury's still out on whether Wilder even wins the fight against Povetkin, but he's going to get paid, that's for sure.

The main problem people are having right now seems to be with the choices for Wilder's 9/26 opponent. It genuinely looks like they're trying to find a stiff (see Wawrzyk) instead of a legitimately ranked challenger. Let's face it: I hope this guy improves and develops into a force at HW because the division needs a lot more depth, but he's not going to do it this way. Povetkin is going to be a serious test for him.

Based on Hughie's last performance even Wilder would beat him.

Doubt it's true. Besides, easy win for Wilder.

if true there is no reason for Fury not to take it. He has nothing to lose. He is young and can bounce back from a loss.

I see Hughie getting KTFO if he takes this fight.

However it's a once in a lifetime opportunity he CANNOT refuse.

That offer is a dirgrace, that's true, but if i would be team fury, i'd take it.

Hughie lacks power and is green, but he's skilled and has tons of stamina, plus he's always fit, unlike his cousin, and has fought not longer than a month ago, i think?

Hughie may well be properly trained and ready, in 4 weeks.

He could lose a lot, and win a lot, at that stage of his career.

Even if he wins, he's then have to face Wladimir, and i give him no chance to beat Wlad.

His cousin is 6 years more mature and bigger, plus i'd say Tyson has always looked more naturally powerful.

He shouldn't be making offers to 20 year old novices. That much is clear but you'll defend his decision no matter what.

Unfortunately for you he's not like Floyd in that he's pretty poor. Therefore his detractors WILL be getting to see him knocked out.

If Ali, M., could make an offer to fight a baby like Leon Spinks was when he fought (and beat!) Ali, then it's fair for Wilder to make an offer to Fury.

Hughie is a youngster.....but he should take the fight, you never know what could happen. Look at Spinks...he won the title.

However, I would be insulting tomatoes if I described Fury's prior opponents as tomato cans.

    I agree.

Earlier I pointed out that Larry Holmes made SIX title defenses against guys with 15 or fewer pro fights - Ossie Ocasio (13-0), Leon Spinks (10-2-2), Marvis Frazier (10-0), Tim Witherspoon (15-0), David Bey (14-0) and Bonecrusher Smith (14-1).

Alfredo Evangelista had a record of 14-1-1 and had been a pro for a year and a half, and had LOST his last fight when he fought Muhammad Ali for the title.

And, like you mentioned, Ali fought Spinks when Leon had a record of 7-0-1.

Mike Tyson was 20 years old, had been a pro for about a year and eight months, and had two months between his last fight and his title win against Berbick.

Tyson won. Spinks (against Ali) won. Witherspoon almost outpointed Holmes. If nothing else, you put your name on the map.

Holmes has one of the most padded and atrocious records in boxing history. Wilder will fit right in.
