I've been saying over and over that the fight is still far away and Manny will get his usual 8 weeks of intense training.

I am now saying his 8 week of intense training will be more like 6.5-7 weeks of intense training.

They are scheduled to begin training on Sep 21. Friday Nov 13 would be 8 full weeks. Let's look at things that will impact that training. Half way through the training they will be flying from the Phillipines to USA. The jet lag from that type of flight affects the body for 2-3 days, so his training during the week they fly out will be impacted. Then, on his last week, the training is never as intense. They tone it down to avoid injury right before the fight; they also need to make sure he's properly rested before the fight. So if the 8th week of training is lightened, and his body is jet-lagged for 2-3 days, we're looking at much less than 8 weeks of training.

Did Manny cut this one too close? I am beginning to agree that Manny's busy schedule will have a bigger impact than I originally thought. Since I am going for Cotto, this is good news for me. What do you all think?

I just hope this don't lead people to make an excuse when Cotto TKO's him in Nov.

Can you say reschedule due to a injury. That has been going around a lot lately. I hope not. I can't wait to see this fight take place.

He must also be ready Mentally witch is very important and with all the other things swirling around in his head it could spell doom for him.

    hmm says. . .

    He'll be alright.
Full 8 weeks doesn't necessarily mean working/preparing the full 8 weeks. Part of the 8 weeks also consider down-time/recovery days. Even with the jet-lag or so... it's been done before. This is typical in a majority of training schedules and is also taken into consideration (ie. spend time with family, last minute with the press, etc).

I hope you're right so that the fight remains competitive. Pacquiao did say he needs a full 8 weeks of training - anything more or less and his body does not respond well. Not sure that he's ever had a break right in the middle of his training like he will when he flies out (the IRS law that made him split his training is brand new thus did not effect him before).

Indeed. I wasn't aware of any IRS law so I hope it doesn't effect him too drastically.

Thats the point.....Manny has to include the down-time/recovery days and the jet-lag and final press conferences in the 7 weeks he has for training!!!

for professional guy with a world class experience and who stay is a good shape ...
is there really required to have more than 4 weeks of the training camp before fight?

I would agree if there would be a significant cut in the weight required or
there would be a ring rust ... but come on!

He himself said anything more or less than 8 weeks, and his body does not respond well.

Can't compare to previous fights - before he wasn't filming 2 movies, recording an album, filming commercials, and preparing for politics. There is a lot more going on than for any other fight.

quit counting your chickens before they hatch...and when pac knocks out Cotto, you'll all be saying it was the weight loss and margarito's destruction that did him in.

It evens out...you got Pac who obviously doesn't feel like he has to train the whole 8 weeks vs Cotto without a good trainer and who's at 145.
