Sorry Mods, but I'm reposting this for boxing fans who want to talk boxing. I'm not interested to take this conversation to the lounge with people who talk about music, tv shows, and kardasians.

So I wanted to get away from the hum drum of the current ESB culture of haternation and bring in a positive story. DLH was robbed at gun point when he was 14 years old, but then the robbers realized who he was and left his stuff back on his door-step. They realized the positive things he was trying to do for the community. Sometimes we forget that a lot of these boxers are not well educated and they are just trying to find a better way of living, and often times try to do the right thing even if they falter at times. I think it is admirable that DLH had a charter school built in his hometown and the students have much higher graduation rates than nearby schools.

Often times we side with out favorite boxers and lambaste their competition and the fans of those competitors. I think it's good once in a while to recognize our commonalities and respect our competition.

I also wanted to add, when I critique fighters I like to keep it technical and sometimes about negotiations. I think most of the fighters are warriors and hardly any of them are pussies. From a personal perspective I totally understand their hypocrisy because they have to look tough, but look out for families, pocket books, and health. After they are done no one is gonna give a crap if they are living on the street or have mental health problems.

On the other hand as a fan of boxing, I want to see the best fight the best, and the financial system should be based on that. Since there is too much corruption, it's not gonna happen.

It's tough and then when a boxer runs for most of a fight the public ***** about it as if they wouldn't run if they were in there. It's so easy to talk **** but it's hard to back it up. The coolest people are the ones who make bold claims and back it up.

I'll voice again that it's a great topic. Hearing of Mayweather donate equipment to Cuban gyms, Pacquiao invest in local micro-financing for poor farmers/workers, DLH give to charity and spend time with fans, Hopkins donate computers to underprivileged schools, it definitely adds an extra layer of greatness to who they are in my eyes.

I edited out the link from your OP. If this was inspired by a topic on another board and you wanted to credit its creator, I can understand the urge - but this isn't a school paper. There is no compulsion to include a bibliography...and left in, the link only would've made this a target for deletion by some of my fellow mods (or the admins).

Great thread idea, but just FYI certain people in power here will delete anything with a link to another forum in the OP - and ban you for having posted it.

Oh thanks for the FYI, cause I didn't realize that, or I forgot after so many years on here posting in random breaks.

Hey that's awesome. I kinda knew some of the stuff Pac did, I didn't know what Mayweather and Hopkins were doing. Most of the stuff I try to stick to is strictly on the boxing, but most of the stuff outside of that is pretty negative and not that great to read. I sometimes think about the stuff that writers post and the affect on kids. Though I think it's important to report about the truth, I can't see how delving into a persons personal life and writing about all the negativity is helpful or even relevant to boxing.

I think the background stories helps a lot for understanding why boxers do what they do (good and bad) and drives their passion. I would think just about every boxer out there has a passion for the sport.

Haha, that's true man. I can respect both styles, but I definitely have to say an technical offense fighter is the most exciting for me. I do think being mouthy and defensive is not a good look, but I could hardly say that there is anything nice or weak about a defensive fighter. They still throw punches that hurt and would KO about any lay person on the street.
