I decided to look back on a classic heavyweight fight and selected the Holmes-Norton fight....for you younger fans who have not watched the entire fight this is a great fight by Holmes that showed his high ring intelligence and mastery of tactics.....Holmes was in great shape a panther trim 209 while Norton was his usually muscular 220lb of genetics and Marine discipline.....this fight shows how limited Holmes was athletically but how great his mind was for this sport just a ring genius he was not a pretty fighter like Ali but he was effective....also he throws punches you do not see alot of and that are left hooks to the head and body.....Holmes was big, fast, tenacious and smart and Norton was the same no matter who he fought he came to fight always in shape.....watching Holmes draw Norton who followed all over the ring it kind of gives a clue to how Norton beat Ali, Ali no longer had the legs to create the angles....great great heavyweight fight from beginning to end a tactical battle with grit Interesting note in the 15th round and throughout you can see Freddy Fender, Chevy Chase, Sylvester Stallone and Roberto Duran standing beside each other and cheering
My favorite Heavyweight championship fight by my favourite HWC Larry Holmes. Great Great fight. I usually pull the disk out and watch this every few yrs. Contrary to what a lot of people say about him I found Holmes on the few occasions I met him to be a hell of a nice guy. Even sitting with me while I ate my lunch talking boxing.
Great fight! But how was Holmes limited physically? Guy had the perfect body for a boxer and was in great shape
