Appreciation Thread for Japan's Fighting Harada

    Harada legitimately beat Jofre twice. He was also robbed in the rematch with Pone Kingpetch and received one of the worst shaftings of all time against Johnny Famechon which makes me feel embarassed to be Australian (Willie Pep's fault really).

    Harada would massacre anyone from flyweight to featherweight today and I agree with Ipswich that Lionel Rose should get great credit for defeating him. That win, along with Fenech's against Azumah Nelson (**** Don King) are the two greatest Aussie boxing wins in the last 50 years.

    Pep was the ref (and scorer), right?

    Yep. Probably went for Famechon becuase he had a Pep-replica boxing style, and also to placate the Aussie crowd. Though there were plenty of boos when Famechon did get the nod. Horrible decision.

    I agree with your post. Famechon did set the record straight in the return, 6 months later though.

    Great fighter, seen quite a few of his fights.
