Will this happen again? 2 great fighters who were p4p 1 and 2 in the world fighting the best opening round in boxing history and greatest 3 round fight ever?

Wow that's 2 generations ago. Can't believe it was so long ago. No we'll never see those circumstances repeated. These days fighters fukk around so much (usually ego related) that by the time they get in the ring together either one or both is past their prime and we're robbed of seeing the best fights possble

Hamed-Kelley plus Junior Jones-Mkkinney on the same card were both as exciting fights, not P4P 1 and 2, but that's pretty rare. JMM-Pac were both P4P 2-3 and gave us 36rounds of greatness. Boxing over the last 10years is actually allot better than we give it credit for

Awesome fight for sure but Powerpuncher has a point too.

The last decade has given us Corrales-Castillo,Pacquiao-Morales 1-3 and Vazquez-Marquez 1-4 to name a few. These fights were all sensational and literally as good as any in the history of the sport.

I remember listening to this on the radio. About 4 a.m. British time.

    Great fight.

I'm reading Four Kings at the moment (A bit late I know, but better than never) and it does make you appreciate just how incredible those four guys were.

Fighters don`t want `it` like those fighters did back then. True, the money was important, but even more so was the bragging rights that came with it. Hearns, stepping up in weight, wanted Hagler to fear and then feel his criipling right hand. Haglet, proud indomitable champ, wanted Hearns to feel what a true middle weight champ could do. My Dad took me as treat for a good year at work. Time of a lifetime ! They both came out flying, hell with feeling out. They each wanted to set the tone and get their respect. Other fighters have gone for it as well. But two higly regarded champs looking to be top dog... Wow !!!

Pound for pound #1 and #2... That is debatable.

But yes, the rest I am in total agreement with.

A super fight on a Monday... those were the days!

Watched it live by satalite at 5.20am tuesday morning at Portsmouth Guildhall along with 3,000 others who'd been out on the **** & filled with madras straydog curry & popadoms we resembled a theatre full of chest beating gorrilas & screaming chimpanzees. What a ****in fight to watch live & no ****er could hear the commentary such was the frenzied screaming participation as to the fistic mayhem that unfolded before our very eyes & with the threatre split 50/50 as to who would prevail.

Everyone left with shocked & dazed looks & euphoric grins as we departed into the early dawn rain & not a blow thrown inside with even the police in attendance expecting the usual riot joining in the with the screaming as the mighty Hagler dumbfounded us all with that kamikaze attack from the 1st ring a ding & laid waste to the Hitman. A wonderful expeareance that will never ever leave me as being so lucky to have seen this battle live blow for blow:yep:D

Were they one and two in the world. I would be inclined to rate Michael Spinks number 2.

I think they were one and two at the time. Hearns had stopped Duran and was fighter of the year in 1984 and Hagler was dominant. It was pickem fight for most people. The odds the night of Hagler/Hearns was I think 7-5 for Hagler.

The odds were actually 6-5 in Haglers favor. Al Bernstein said if you ask any 10 people who will win the fight, five will pick Hagler and the other five Hearns
I think some gamblers looked at common opponents. It took Hearns a combined 3 rounds to finish Geraldo and Duran while Hagler squeaked out a couple of close decisions
