The punch which hurt Hagler was at 23 seconds on the video and he wobbled. And the cut which Hagler got was actually Hagler's fault at 1:41 of the video. Hagler is holding inside and he jerks his head to the left into Hearns mouthpiece. I studied this fight for days to find the part where he was cut. He actually cut himself on Hearns mouthpiece. Hearns was breathing hard and Hagler actually jerked his head up into it. So Hagler has to blame himself. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5s--I8BsgDU&feature=related[/ame]

    Awesome fight!

I've always wondered if Hearns would be able to fight effectively from the outside if he wanted to or if Hagler would always succeed in making the fight a mid-close range slugfest despite Hearns' best efforts.

Hagler for this fight was intense mentally and physically. I think he decided he was going to put his all into this fight on this night and not lose.

I always thought the reason why this was the last fight where he looked good was that he put his all into this fight mentally and physically and in later fights he just didn't have the reservoir anymore to dip into. He used it all in this fight. After this fight he got the endorsements and everything and he was off for a year which he never did and then fought Mugabi and was rusty and had a tough fight. Then he fought Ray a year after that and looked slow and not sharp again. Ray knew when to pick Marvin after seeing him with Mugabi and being slower and uninspired.

This fight with Hearns was a fight Marvin put his all into and it showed, but in a rematch I do not think he would have been as intense and I don't think he could have been. In the rematch I see it as a slower pace fight with Tommy using his jab and clinching more when Marvin got in close. Tommy would try and fight the fight he fought with Virgil Hill years later. After a few rounds Tommy would start to land his right from a distance, and the fact he hurt Hagler in the first fight shows that he could hurt Hagler and he might have stopped Hagler. But I think logically that Hearns would have won the fight on TKO with swellling or cuts. The second fight would have been much slower pace. The first fight here was unheard of. Both guys came with the same mindset.

As for Marvin, I think this fight here he put his all into and he deserved to win. I am Tommy's biggest fan I am sure, but Hagler on this night would have been hard to beat. He was so intense. Hagler was never the same again and he was not the one who lost. Hearns went on to fight another 26 times with a record of 22-3-1. Hagler only fought 2 more times with record of 1-1

Cool, did anyone at the time expect it turn into the war that it was or was the general consensus that they would fight the way they usually did?

I remember that the consensus among people was that Hearns would try stop Hagler in a few rounds with this right hand from a distanceand if that didn't work he would get on his toes and box Hagler and win a decision. And for Hagler, Marvin would try and come out a little more aggresive than normal and work Hearns body and use that to wear him out and stop him late. I don't think anyone expected the fight they had. I think both guys thought they could stop the other guy and that is why they fought so recklessly. Hagler came out firing and Hearns did also. I think what is amazing about this fight is that both guys had the same thing in mind and they both were 100 percent confident.

I was 16 when this fight came around...cried all night too after the fight..Tommy Hearns was and always will be my man...This is the cat that got me into boxing...When I saw what he did to Cuevas,I was bought stock and lock..and I been following the game since.

That said..after all these years,I have to admit...very few MW fighters in history could have handled that version of Marvin Hagler...simply a beast he was...came out smoking..took everything Tommy had to give him...and gave it right back...that kind of will,on both dudes,is still unbelievable...Tommy could have mede it last longer if he'd chosen to box...but I still think it would have ended before the final bell...Too much intensity...

Mos def one of the greates fights I've ever watched..And I still watch it every other day.True war this was.

Great fight but to be honest, I prefer fights where combinations are thrown. I found they were mostly throwing bombs 1 punch at a time, a lot of punches thrown but it didn't flow.

I think its the same reason I didnt enjoy Corrales-Castillo as much as most people did, still a great fight though.

I just enjoy combination punching, whether it be Ali throwing a crazy 10 punch, Tyson with short explosive combo's, Miguel Cotto unleashing a quick 5 punch combination.
