April 16 - Post-fight report

I felt the same Rendall won but didn't look spectacular or dominating. Maybe a bit of ring rust I will give him a pass but I look forward to seeing what Hatton promotions have planned for him. Whats their route to a world title

 

Lopez is all fighter. He was punched into orbit and yet was still swinging haymakers at the end. Rematch at the end of year says Arum.

 

:yep Sounds a bit like the hilarity we had eariler in relation to John-Yordan, that entire broadcast was magnificent, so many highlights.

Munroe isn't up yet, obviously he wasn't too impressive though.

Did you not see all the shite that was happening before that? It's all in IB's RBR in the general, that thread is legendary, I'd say we all look insane if you're just reading it and not looking at events as they transpired. Indonesian TV is mad.

 

He was my boy as well, I was devvo'd. Still reckon he's give Kell Brook a good argument.

Why were you impressed with impressed with McCloskey's display? Surely it's easy to handle the speed of Khan when he's so sloppy and full of schoolboy errors

McCloskey did nothing more than you see the average journeyman do every week on Sky. Trying to survive, it was absolutely awful for what was his first World Title.

 

Didn't say he was impressed with his display...........difference between being impressed with way he adapted to the speed of a world class fighter and being brave enough to hold hands down even when in range.

Not everything's cut and dry....Khan has world class speed...but at same time makes errors.

 

Victor Ortiz - Showed steel. Not much more to say. He's got the ability, but out of nowhere he's randomly found steel. All I'd say is he needs to continue in this vein and not make it a one off just to win a world title. 147 is his home now.


Andre Berto - Pretty much a lot of his flaws that we've seen against Collazo etc exposed badly in this one. Seemed to have the air taken out of his lungs early, couldn't maintain a work-rate, we saw none of those flashy bursts. Tried to soak too much up and it didn't work, he just got outworked. Couldn't fight up close, still. Too much holding. Back to the drawing board, tons to work on if he's going to compete with the best at any point in the future.

Amir Khan - Meh I've been over everything he did badly already. Poor performance, but job done and they need to try and learn a few lessons. Worrying that the old habits are STILL lurking.

Paul McCloskey - Out of his depth, no point being too harsh on him really as we expected that. Bit disapointing he didn't buy a few more lottery tickets with a title on the line. Could fair better against other fighters at this level without the speed. Only positives I can say is he showed an okay chin (at least not Salita level) and defence when he's totally committed to defence.


Juanma Lopez - Havn't seen this fight.

Orlando Salido - Havn't seen this fight.

Jason Booth - Just lacked the strength and power of Munroe to subdue the Spaniard. That's basically it. Caught a peach of a left hook, could have gone on but ultimately not disapointed to see a very good domestic operator stopped at that point. Retirement time ideally.

Kiko Martinez - Typical Kiko. Gets him heading back towards a world title shot. He'll likely come up quite a way short at world class but it depends whats out there for him. I like him for sparking out Dunne.

Craig Watson - It was all going so well and then...! Disappointment for the kid, still has something to offer at this level.

Lee Purdy - Landed a good shot, what can you say. Wasn't too impressed, he was getting completely outboxed aside from that but he was always keeping just about in with a shout and it paid off. Thats the difference between what he did and what McCloskey did.

 

Well substitute display with what you said there, Why was it impressive what McCloskey did when Khan was so sloppy, amateurish, full of mistakes, lacking a boxing brain etc. etc. Surely all these things just makes in incredibly easy for McCloskey to slip shots? All seems a bit of a contradiction to me

Especially easy when you have no plans to fire anything back or counter with anything, which McCloskey did not. If he could have translated that defence into even the tiniest bit of offensive work than fair enough, he should get some dues. But he didn't.
