Lyell's name was being thrown around for the Tassie card that had Geale and Mundine fighting different opponents - the card that was meant to be the prelude to Geale v Mundine II that Mundine ran from. Lyell instead fought Gray in the US and had a win, but has since lost to Sylvester in an IBF middleweight challenge.
Sylvester and other current title-holders probably aren't overjoyed at the prospect of coming to Oz for the defence and having the judges hand-picked by team Mundine (ala the Medley IBO title bout debacle)!
mundine vs lyell would be in the same vein as pavlik vs lockett in the sense of fighting a stablemate to get a shot at the main man jack loew wants lyell to retire anyway and I imagine that he got his ibf shot because he was seen as a gimme willing to stand-in at the last minute
Looking forward to the split site show on HBO being shown in Australia. Miranda while he will probably be completely outclassed...will come out swinging & makes every match entertaining. Also he has new trainer Joe Goossen so he may fare a little better than we think....still expect Bute to dominate. Miranda always has that punchers chance....
Yep, Ward actually jumped on him straight away. Bute will clown him. He's too slow and his punches are too wide.
Didnt find it a boring match tho...no doubt Miranda lacks skill & is a wild slugger. Considering who is available at Super Middle for Bute its not the worst fight.
True, the S6 has tied up most of them. I might be a bit harsh, it's just that I can't see anything other than Bute handing out a shellacking.
I would prefer watching Miranda cop a sustained beating:yep than Bute's new mandatory Jesse Brinkley who would be lucky to make it past the 1st few rounds IMO.
