    Why'd he retire so early?

I want to question the validity of this. Always heard Archie was the KO king. Wonder if they don’t count KOs Moore has had that aren’t recorded on boxrec? Heard he has more fights then listed

His record is constantly being revisited and re-evaluated. It’s possible he may have had more fights than recorded. But I agree with you. For decades he’s been credited as having the most knockouts. But If there’s any truth to that other man’s record then perhaps not.

If Bob Fitzsimmons had 300 fights, which he claimed, how many woud be knockouts?

    That's also why I retired

I too was surprised, when I first (I think about 8-10 years ago) noticed on BoxRec, that they listed more ko wins foe Bird than for Archie. For decades I thought it was set in stone, that the record belonged to Moore. But new fights are being found all the time - which in this case apparently has tilted the numbers in Bird's favour.

I think the reason he gets overlooked is because he just couldn't manage to win the heavyweight title. He got awfully close against Marciano but the younger fighter outworked him.

Had Moore been champ even for 24 hours, I think a lot more people would make a huge deal out of his KO record and credentials as a knockout artist.

Kind of like how people tend to have cognitive dissonance when it comes to Earnie Shavers. They can't just get past the fact he never became champ, as if that nullifies his power somehow. When people do this they are almost telling on themselves because they're implying that power is everything (even if it's unintentional). It's weird because no one disputes that guys like Amir Khan are as fast as buttered lightning on a frying pan even though he is far from elite. No one disputes the chin of guys like Chuvalo, or the jab of Carl Williams, or the defensive ability of Jimmmy Young even though they weren't champions. But when it comes to power people need additional credentials.

I guess it's similar to NBA or NFL players who have amazing stats and athletic ability but couldn't manage to win a ring, such as Allen Iverson or Bo Jackson. I have a cousin who will argue for literally hours until he's blue in the face about how Kyrie Irving is way better than Iverson.
