In his prime Archie was a monster to look at, a light heavyweight who was scared of no one even the heavys.. I beleive Archie no doubt....
Once someone gets to a certain level, nobody would be any the wiser. If he could "only" do 50 in a row that'd still be a hell of an accomplishment and people wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I could only do about 20 chins when I practiced them (at least I can still crack out 35-40 dips in good form), and nobody can tell by looking I could probably only do half that many now.
For those of you who didn't read it right, Tszyu's record of 1,111 is for PUSHUPS, not pullups. Also, the other poster is correct when he did it over an hour in sets. I stand corrected. Also, Russian kettlebells are a hell of a workout. Tszyu swears by them.
Kostya was a bit of a freak. I trained with him for around two years in rockdale and Ihave seen with my own eyes that he used to be able to do around 200 pushups without break. His injury problems came about because of the way he trained. Training harder is not always the best thing in the world for somepeopple.
You were in great shape. I was in the Marine Corp and only a handful of guys could crack 20 pull ups in my company. In our annual physical fitness tests, you would get a perfect score if you could do 20 or more. The most i could pull off were 15 good pull ups. But nothing more. Pulls up ain't no joke.
Jack LaLane... 1959 Age 45: Completed 1,000 pushups and 1,000 chin-ups in 1 hours and 22 minutes. Can you guys do this kind of pushup...??? [YT]fIVfe-crHDs[/YT]
Oh they can, it's just that nobody cares about keeping track of what I do, including myself. It's a far cry from needing to worry about a tenth of a second in a 40 yard dash.
Man, that's insane. But the record for pull ups in an hour was 825. So i don't know if he was able to do what you said he did.

100 chin ups would be pretty freakish, i imagine he probably tweaked the figure a little, and also they wouldn't be the best quality reps, though if it is true it is still an amazing achievement.
