Actually, Moore was 23 in 1940, and a middleweight. Regardless of his youth, no way I think this Moore could defeat the Moore of the 1950's. Thanks for the site. It also brought up a color version of Moore-Olson from 1955. It was interesting to compare the two versions of Moore. There was only a 1:54 excerpt from the Richards fight and a caveat would be that a full version might show more from Moore. This excerpt shows a promising young fighter who is a middleweight swarmer and mauler. He rarely jabs or boxes but prefers mauling in close. He is strong and effective, but limited. The 1955 Moore is a master boxer-puncher. He has and uses a strong jab. He blocks most of Olson's punches. He has torso movement, presenting a weaving target. And he is a much sharper puncher. The bottom line for me is how much Moore learned over the years and how much he improved. He not only got bigger, but much better.
His Mum says he was 27. I know he was a middleweight. Who said anytthing about matching him up with his Hvy and LHeavy self? Give it a rest FFS!
His mom had her own issues and didn’t raise Him. Whole family knew his age. Archie knew his age. He used this as a promotional tool and it obviously worked. It’s on his tombstone the day he was born as well as in census data. I won’t argue it further in respect for the nice video u posted. On that front it’s crazy how much he changed from athletic freak to prolonging his career w a defensive oriented style. Only one I can think of that did the exact same was Mayweather
"it's crazy how much he changed from athletic freak" My reaction also. From athletic freak to master boxer puncher. I also want to thank McVey for posting even if he doesn't like my reaction.
I am also thankful to McVey for this post. That said-and I really hate to be that guy, but I'm sure this thread will fill up with people who also know a little more detail here, like I do-but one or possibly both of these fighters are actually Cab Calloway.
Nice too see discussion of a young Moore. It’s almost parallel universe stuff to see such a discussion.
